Interesting, isn’t it, that so many small towns and villages in America have biblical names. In eastern Pennsylvania you can begin at Philadelphia (a Bible name--Revelation 3:7) and in two hours you can visit both Bethlehem and Nazareth, as well as Emmaus, Bethesda, Shiloh, Bethel, Eden, Ephrata, Zionsville and New Jerusalem. If you choose, you can stop by Mount Nebo, Mount Zion, Mount Joy, Mount Lebanon, and Mount Carmel. Have you wondered why? It’s because the Bible had a direct impact on the society and culture of Old America and it shows up in the names they gave their towns and villages.
America has more towns named after Bible towns than anywhere in the world, except, of course, the Bible lands themselves. Author Unknown |

Must not have been much Christian influence back in the day where I grew up. Most towns have names of Native American origin: Bemidji, Puposky, Onigum, Manohmen, for instance. There is a Mizpah, however. Near my current residence there is St. Paul, uh.....St. Thomas, St. Peter 90 miles out. Hmmm, kinda scarce. A cursory check of my atlas turns up only about 16 with religious themed names, mostly of Catholic saints. Only one, East Bethel, is named for a Biblical town. I must live in a heathenous state.

Did a little research, did not realize there are so many. The town I live in if you haven't already noticed is Salem = Jerusalem = Israel. I just point that out because I found it interesting.

Hey in Ontario..... There are a lot of places named after the native Indians and Toronto being one. There are also a lot after British places ... like Scarborough..Windsor.... London... and London even has a Thames river.
