Does our perception of whom Jesus really is get changed by church doctrine and peoples opinions?
I would like to take some time and actually look at what scripture says about the person of Jesus. He seemed to be someone who liked people, often spending time dining with those that 'society' held in low esteem such as tax collectors and prostitutes , even women, at that time. I am concerned that we dont end up believing that Jesus was 'religious' and wouldnt do this that or the other, I think we would be shocked if we lived on earth when He did, and saw the way He wasnt constrained at all by peoples opinions etc. I believe He enjoyed being at wedding parties and eating with those that wanted to listen to Him. He also had found favor with man, sometimes contrary to what people say, that, no-one accepted Him, it was actually the 'religious' that couldnt accept Him. Luke 2 :52 52And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. Have enclosed some scripture to show what I mean, what do others think? From John 3 6Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[a] 7Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. 8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." 11This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him. Matthew 9 10While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples. |

Jax, I couldn't agree more. I think for alot of us He has been portrayed as a very serious, even sullen, man. I have thought about this often~ If we think realistically, and what our Savior's purpose was, we would believe and see him otherwise~ I know He was very serious about souls but I see a savior who smiled alot, laughed, was even playful at times, and most certainly cried. He is not the stone faced person we sometimes have envisioned~ ![]()

Of course, Jesus is loving and we see Him enjoying the same kind of things that we enjoy today.... fellowship with our families.... spending time with friends... eating and sharing...concerned about each of us and our needs as He turned water into wine at the wedding feast as He fed the thousands on the hill side. as He healed the blind man , the leaper etc.
I am sure if He were here with us today, He would love to enjoy the laughter and share in our joys and sorrows. He would also love to join in the laughter and be in the midst of our festivities. That would be awsome. And then like you said there is the serious side which people always look at before everything else. Like us all there is a serious side to us as well. To me I am looking forward to seeing Him and sitting at his feet, listening and taking in His every word and presence. What an awsome time we are going to have ..... Wow.... I can't even imagine.
