I hope somebody can shed some light on this topic for me. I was in a conversation with a christian yesterday and they where discussing prophecy over South Africa.
The bible states that we will know false prophets by their fruits, not by their prophecies. Does this mean that false prophets can get prophecies correct? In the late 1800's and early 1900's there was a prophet in South Africa who the "boers" held in very high respect. This man was supposedly a very strong christian and read nothing else other than the bible. He made more than 7000 prophecies regarding South Africa and many of them have come to fullfillment. The problem is from reading some of his prophecies there is a serious racial hatred toward black people and toward english people. The prophecies show of a war soon to happen in South Africa where millions get slaughtered in the name of God but the drive is racial hatred. Many of the Afrikaans speaking people still follow this mans teachings and some churches even preach it. I firmly believe that this man was a false prophet but how can he have got so many prophecies correct?

Even the enemy mixes a little truth in what he says!
I think that a false prophet can still get it right some of the time, the enemy will allow certain things to happen to appear genuine, but he cant produce good fruit, so we see the qualification nailed at this point. I think it important to speak the Word of God over our nations, literally intercede and speak out loudly that which God has spoken. His Word will be fulfilled. |

Look at Nostradamus, he had some prophecies that supposedly have come true, but alot that have not.
Here's the test...are their prophecies 100 percent correct 100 percent of the time? If not, it's counterfeit. To me, one false prophecy makes them invalid. All prophecies in the bible are 100 percent accurrate 100 percent of the time.

I believe that at all times, there are a small number of false prophets in the world, a larger number of fake prophets, and on VERY RARE occasions, a true prophet. The thing about prophecy, is that it's believed to be a prediction of the future. It is not. The future cannot be accurately predicted without changing it. This is a law of physics. God saying He will judge the world, isn't a prediction of the future, because HE is going to make it happen, but it IS a prophecy. It's not a prediction if you are going to ensure it happens. By saying I'm going to feed my cat tonight isn't seeing into the future, because I'm going to make sure it happens...if he's lucky. XD
I'll split them up like this: False Prophet: This is a person who is receiving supernatural information. For the sake of argument, we can say that Satan is providing them with information about what Satan is expecting to happen. Satan is not in complete control, and cannot guarantee 100% results, but if he is going to do something bad, and he tells a Prophet, then does it himself, you could see a pretty accurate prophecy forming. It's not a prediction of the future, it's exactly what I stated earlier. Fake Prophet: This is basically someone who is just making it up, or has studied enough so that they can make good guesses on what is going to happen. This is actually an attempt at predicting the future. Basic stage magic here. True Prophet: Again, similar to the False Prophet, because they are getting information from a supernatural source. But the source is God, and not a demon, "angel", or spirit.

EDIT: Let me rephrase that. I don't see how being somehow tricked would necessarily condemn you to hell. Maybe that's not totally right either. I know what I'm thinking, I'm just not sure how to put it into words because I don't know enough about this particular person.

Amen Mike - God gives us discenrment. Jesus said it best (as always): my sheep know My voice. If you get that deep down " gut " feeling that something isn't right pray and search the scripture with the Holy Spirit as your guide and teacher. He will show you what is good and right.
