Please do not be offended, this may not be a Biblical link nor is it for anyone that cannot appreciate the 50's, but it is a look back at a more peaceful time in America. I was born in the late 50's so my memory is a vivid one, but checking Christmas Time (on this link) in the 50's was more well received.
I hope this link will bring fond memories to at leat one. http://heavens-gates.com/50s/

What stands out in my memory is how people used to know their neighbors. I remember being a toddler and moving into a new house, the Lady across the street made us cookies to welcome us to the neighborhood, another one made a pie and another made more cookies. How often does this happen now?
Love thy neighbor as thyself... Many people today have no idea who their neighbors are.

Don .....This is so true .... especially in big cities. I live in a townhouse complex and of course we are very close to each other. For me I got to know my neibours by being a friend to them. At Christmas I bake and give them goodies. The one single working mom on one side of me, sometimes when I make too much food ( It's hard to cook for one ) I leave a pot at her door and when she comes home from work she is so happy that she does not have to cook. But yes Don being born in a small town.... You knew all the neibours and they looked out for the kids in the neibourhood and we had what we called "neibourhood watch" with a sign in the window that if we were in trouble we could go to that neibour. Gone are those days.

My entrance didnt occur till very late 1961, but I loved the style and yes even the 'innocence' of the 50's, everything seems so tame compared to today, although some would say the seeds of rebellion were being laid then.
It is such a different world now, I yearn for a time like that! |
