Is the question personal?
What do I want for myself?
That my children are happy and all of them live for Christ.

What I want for Christmas is always an odd question. I realized years ago that as a mother and woman, the things that I get for gifts are often household items that can be used by me in the home (i.e. dish towels, pots and pans, etc.). Women get the "needs" and men get the "wants."

That being said, if I could hope for one thing that is frivolous and unnecessary, I would hope for some bath items like bath salts, those pearls with the oil in them, assorted bubble baths, etc. It is nice to get something that allows me to relax and take some time just for myself.

This year my sister drew my name: mom called me and was worried, because she said my sister was saying, "What do you get someone who has everything?"

I really do have everything! I do! Because the only thing that I really need is Jesus and God in my life! The rest just falls into place, because I don't worry about fame, money, success, clothing, status, or anything else that seems to concern the "normal" world today.

But...I've been secretly wanting to get a turtle now for the past 25 years or so.

Last Monday, I GOT ONE!!!!!!! Yay! He's a Red-Ear Slider. I named him Sprout (after the Jolly Green Giant's nephew). He's about the size of a Kennedy coin. He eats tiny little pebbles that look like fruity-pebbles. I bought him a coconut shell house and installed a tiny little satelite dish on top for him. I'm going to find some of those light-up rice-lights and hang them on his home.

Other than that...I love home-made Christmas presents.

Biiig job taking proper care of a turtle. I have a Texas Map Turtle, which has similar care to a Red Eared Slider. They are both semi-aquatic turtles. It takes me about 2-3 hours every time I clean his habitat. I spend probably about $20-$30 a month on supplies (just to give you an idea of time and money that goes into one).

Here are a couple of websites that provide you good info on caring for your turtle. Many captive turtles die each year from improper care. If you have any question, you can always PM me and ask, since the care of our turtles is similar. I am not sure what things you have bought already, but starting out you will end up spending several hundred in supplies: tank, proper lighting, filtration, etc.

I used to have little pet turtles....they actually sold little plastic molded trays with a path that climbed, a pond and a fake coconut tree you stuck in a little hole.
The real coconut is better, trust me.
Ha! I haven't remembered that in ages!
Thanks for the memory.
Enjoy Sprout~

Thanks everybody!

I'm soooo ready for this turtle. I went to the pet shop and loaded up. I even got him one of those white turtles that you put into the water and it keeps bacteria and such down.

When I lowered that white turtle down into Sprout's water he was looking up at it like: "GASP! What did you DO to this poor little turtle to make him all white!!!!"

Thanks for the links! I'm going crazy sitting here at work, because I want to be home with Sprout. Ever since I got him, the TV has been off, my books folded shut, and I just stare and think of ways to decorate his tank.

I'm going to put a little fake door-bell on his coconut shell and make a little address plaque. Maybe I'll cut him a window and built him a mini-chimney.

Violet - that looks like a picture of Sprout!
