In this chapter the number 12,000 is used 12 times.

I don't know much about the bible. Maybe this has some significance someone could explain?

I have no idea about any of these tribes. I'm so confused. And this sounds like his future return to earth, is it a dream or something?

They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." 11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying: "Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!" 13 Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes--who are they, and where did they come from?" 14 I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. 16 Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." "

There are 12 Apostles, 12 Patriarchs, 12 tribes, 12,000 from each tribe, the tree of life will bare 12 fruits, 12 gates on the New Jerusalem which measures 12,000 furlongs square,this city is built on 12 foundations and there are 12 angels - one for each of the twelve gates- theses also bore the names of the 12 tribes.
Israel is described as a woman with 12 stars around her head as she gives birth to Christ's physical manifestation.
When Jesus broke the loaves and fishes to feed the multitudes there were 12 baskets left over.
The Woman with the issue of blood who was healed as she touched the hem of Jesus's garment was ill for 12 years.
The ruler of the synagogue who's daughter was raised from the dead rejoiced to hold his 12 year old again.
Jesus was 12 years old when He stayed behind in Jerusalem and amazed all in the temple with His wisdom.
This list could go one for some time, there are 168 references to the number 12 in the King James Bible.
Why is this number so signifigant- God's promises to Abraham were to unfold thru the 12 sons he had. Even the line of Christ the Messiah came thru that promise.In him ( Abraham) would all nations be blessed and we inherit those promises the same way he did- by faith.

Ok the whole numbers thing got me interested...

I have a question about Revelation 13:18.

Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.

It says let him who has understanding calculate the number... How would you calculate the number 666?

Larry, that explanation was great. I had not known any of that history lesson you just gave. I didn't know that 12 was such an important number. Numbers mean a lot to God, He even named a book after them.

It will be so wonderful to discover new and amazing things when we get to Heaven. I can hardly wait. Bonnie

Up until the time of John Darby - 666 was understood to be Nero the Roman Emperor. Today, with our new futurist doctrines, it can mean anyone who fits the bill.



So this comes out as Neron Quesar or Nero Caesar. And it totals 666."

You also have to be able to give an interpretation of the full context of the number - which is usually passed over and ignored.

The 666 thing is one of the most widely debated topics anywhere. If one takes a historical view Jasher is absolutely right. There are many theories and views and I am not sure one could positively settle on one.
Just remember not to stamp it on your forehead or right hand-

7 = perfection
6 = man

777 = fullness of perfection (God)
666 = man trying to play God

So what do people think of the "mark of the beast" on the hand or forehead?

Do you think that's accurate? Like in the Tribulation movie...they were getting tattoos and such?

Is that what we have to look out for? Or is the mark going to be something more hidden in meaning that we might get without us even knowing it?
