what is a prophet? do we still need prophets to prophesy to the church about what will happen in the future? my understanding is that we have the bible now and there is no need for any prophecy unlike the past where they did not have the bible.

There are no modern day prophets and anyone who claims to be one is a false teacher. There ARE persons who teach what is already contained in the Scriptures, but these are not Prophets - they are Teachers. Please remember that God, through His Son, has stated very clearly in Scripture...

Mark 13:22-23 (KJV), "22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. 23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things."

God and Christ have told us all things. The prophesy of Scripture is all that we need to know and understand. There is no one in the flesh who can represent God and Christ in NEW revelations. So called and self proclaimed prophets are doing the work of Satan in trying to deceive. Do not be taken in by their slick words and their charisma. They are FALSE in every sense of the word and should be rebuked by every Christian.

By you, yourself, knowing what is contained in God's Message to us; The Holy Bible. Anything that is not in God's Word and is being vocalized by a self proclaimed 'prophet', is a false teaching.

Our Christian wisdom in being able to spot these false ones comes from our in-depth Bible Studies and being able to use discernment to tell the REAL teachers of God's Word from those who manipulate and even make up their own scripture to accomplish an agenda. These people are masters of deception and enhance their ego while being able to manipulate YOU through their arrogance. Power over the people is what they are after... not to tell you God's original Truths.

The fivefold ministry is still very active. Some circles do not follow this belief however the scroptures plainly declare:
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Till we walk in perfect complete maturity in Christ, have we achieved this? I think not. I have not met a prophet but I have met an evengelist who moved in the gift of prophecy and he was the most amazing man I have ever talked to. His insight and knowledge was amazing and I have no trouble believing his gift was from God. Some circles do not move in the spiritual gifts and that is ok but it certainly does not mean they don't exist.
