Beloved is on a distinguished road
Bible

I stopped trying a long time ago... I didn't have anything of what it took to live the Christian life...Every where I turned I ran into brick walls...

That's my opinion on 1 reason why we were given the Holy Spirit...
And I'm sticking to it...
  1. Psalm 23:2
    He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.
    Psalm 23:1-3 (in Context) Psalm 23 (Whole Chapter)
  2. Psalm 29:10
    The Lord sat as King over the deluge; the Lord [still] sits as King [and] forever!
    Psalm 29:9-11 (in Context) Psalm 29 (Whole Chapter)
  3. Psalm 37:7
    Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him; fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.
    Psalm 37:6-8 (in Context) Psalm 37 (Whole Chapter)
  4. Psalm 46:10
    Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!
    Psalm 46:9-11 (in Context) Psalm 46 (Whole Chapter)

You know, David commited several sins that vexed him constantly. He pleaded to God continually for mercy and in time recieved it. But because of the severity of his sins God punished the nation of Israel, and they were defeated in a major battle. God did not forget David nor did He ever intend to leave him alone. But, He did remind David that the Lord God is a righteous God and merciful in ways we cannot begin to imagine, and even though sin can and will be forgiven there are still some consequences. God hasn't forgotten you, He loves you...read David's plea to God below. Read also how to approach God and to keep yourself from falling back into the pit you were pulled out of. Remember...you are His child. Do you think that a father would throw away his child just because he makes mistake(s). If Jesus taught 7 x 70 to humans, then how much more do you think God can forgive.

David's plea
Ps 143:2-7
2 Do not enter into judgment with Your servant,
For in Your sight no one living is righteous.
3 For the enemy has persecuted my soul;
He has crushed my life to the ground;
He has made me dwell in darkness,
Like those who have long been dead.
4 Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me;
My heart within me is distressed.
5 I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all Your works;
I muse on the work of Your hands.
6 I spread out my hands to You;
My soul longs for You like a thirsty land.
Selah
7 Answer me speedily, O LORD;
My spirit fails!
Do not hide Your face from me,
Lest I be like those who go down into the pit.
Ps 143:8
8 Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For in You do I trust;
Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,
For I lift up my soul to You.
NKJV

How to approach God
Ps 66:18
8 If I regard iniquity in my heart ,
The Lord will not hear.
NKJV

Ps 34:18
18 The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart ,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
NKJV

Ps 51:17
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart --
These, O God, You will not despise.
NKJV

Ps 51:10-12
10 Create in me a clean heart , O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
NKJV

Our only hope
Ps 73:25-26
25 Whom have I in heaven but You?
And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
26 My flesh and my heart fail;
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
NKJV
