Do you think church should focus more on bringing new people to God or focus on increasing the faith and knowledge of the current members. I take the easy way out and think there should be a healthy balance of both. But I heard recently there was a church ( I can't remember where it was at) that was so focused on bringing new people in, they lost a lot of their current members.

A church should worship the Lord God with true hearts, that's all...whether there's five or five-thousand members.
If their hearts are true in their worship, I think, then the word will get out. They'll be blessed. People thirsty for the Word will pour in as if the floodgates have opened. Just my thoughts... |

One on one witnessing is still the most effective way to increase church membership. The cults know this and they have become very successful at it. A big tent revival or healing circus...er...crusade is more headhunting than true evangelism.

I'd say that a church should focus on increasing the faith of the current members.
Then they will reach a stage when they cannot help but speak out, and God will do the rest. |

My Church does both... he begins his preaching with milk then ends with prime rib...
My Pastors have a radio and prison ministry for evangelising and bible study, for the newbies and ministry studies for the more mature... I love my little church of about 20 30 people...

A church should focus on preaching The Truth, all the way, even if they lose members over it.
God will hold church leaders responsible. To strengthen the members with pure Truth and Gospel will allow that Truth to spread! If more Truth from the Bible was the main focus, 'numbers' should not be a concern, but left up to God and the blessings through the members, in sharing their spiritual Truth.......... swswswswswswswswswswswswswswswswswswswswswswswswsw swsws My cat says HELLO. I believe that a church should strive to meet the spiritual needs and (if there are any) phyisical needs of the saints, maintain and demonstrate a collective life that glorifies Christ Jesus and spread the gospel.
Increased faith and wisdom are the fruit of individual and corporate life in Christ. It is God, not man, that should bring the increase. Those who are truely commited to Christ will seek knowledge. The churches only responsibility is to help and/or discipline the saints. Sincerely His Cliff Last edited by Theophilus; 11-09-2007 at 01:26 AM. |
