Absolutely. As Christians we ought to be one of the few who are willing to do it. What they do with the money cannot concern me because I'm only told by Christ to give freely---he'll handle what happens with it. Besides that, I love people, and it's a good opportunity to witness at the same time and exalt Jesus Christ. Hand them the money, tell them it's from God, that he loves them, and let them think about that for a spell.

But you would have to come and get me ...... He He

I do because I don't know their situation or how they got there. I ask God that whatever I give them they spent on food or something they need not want.
For example, like when I give to the church. People used to laugh at me because I was generous in the collection plate. I would say, I did what God told me to do... it's up to them if they obey as well.

I generally try to help where I can, however a couple of years ago I went to Paris and after two days of keep handing over money I was getting a bit weary of it.
It wasnt like they were grateful, the same ones every day would be there waiting for more, often holding small children to multiply the impact. They were eastern europeans and I diid feel sad for them, but if I didnt work I too would have to beg. I believe we all have a responsibility to provide for ourselves where we can. |

Yes! We are told to help those in need and this can truly be a blessing for those who are suffering and it can also be a blessing upon our own heart. When we give with the sole purpose of helping another of God's children, believer or not we are also giving to Him, who gives to us, but we must never forget what Jesus said on the mountainside.
Giving to the Needy Matthew 6:1-4 1"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I'm one of those guys, though, that have a hard time saying no to anybody in need.
For a while, I was seeking counseling for this. I was so overloaded at work because I couldn't say no. I had so many projects, it was ridiculous! My health was in danger. But with giving to strangers who ask, the funny thing is this...I give whenever I'm asked. I don't worry about the next person that asks, because somehow, magically (through the power of Christ), I always have something to give. I always trust the person who is asking me for money, because I pray in my heart for Jesus to protect me, and I try very hard not to judge others. If I saw every person that asked me for something as just an alcoholic, I'd never give money to anybody. I can't do that. I have to store up my treasures in heaven, not here on earth. So I give without making it obvious - usually rolling the money up in my palm and shaking their hand. I leave quickly, before they can thank me...they can thank me later on when we're both in paradise ![]() God gave me more than I need for a reason. My cup runneth over. I can't possibly use it all here on earth, because my needs are only limited. I have a heart, I know. I feel sorry for shoplifters sometimes who are caught stealing food, I'm that soft-hearted. I myself once lived in extreme poverty, fresh out of college, and scrapped by on very, very, very little. Today, I know my Saviour and don't feel the need for anything material, but only His guidance, love, grace, and protection. Matthew 5:42 |

Before I give, while I give, after I give: spare change, granola bar, water, a kind word, I breathe prayer, "LORD, bless this person for Your glory, whether they be honest or not." I usually give a small New Testament and Psalms (courtesy of The Gideons International) and say, "Here is the real food." Most often I'll have my two small children with me so they can see that we should treat those with poverty of possessions and/or spirit with acts of kindness/compassion just like Jesus did when He walked the Earth. I've even had times where the individuals will be blessings to us. This taking place in Albuquerque, NM. Reason to pray: Jesus is the one who looks into the heart and knows each person. I'm just glad He keeps reminding me of how broken I am and how very much in need everyone is of Our LORD and Savior.
