I think the verse before that says it all. But you, man of God, live in the right way , serve God, have faith, love, patience and gentleness. Vs : 12 Fight the good fight of faith, grabbing hold of the life that continues forever. You were called to have that life when you confessed the good confession before many witnesses.
(NCV) We must be a disciplined people and guard our motives to make sure they are in the rightplace and be faithful to God and His Word and live lives separate and Holy.

1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. It is my belief that the good fight of faith is mostly waged against the old nature or the fleshly man. To overcome means dying to the old self daily and finding our life in Christ.This is indeed where we find life. God gives us a new spirit when we are born again, He gives us a new body at the ressurection. The part He is saving is our soul- mind, will, intellect, emotions- basically redeeming the person we are. This is done thru daily renewing of our minds according to His Word or becoming " renewed in the spirit (life force or power) of our minds. This is the battleground in which we personally fight. This is also the territory God calls us to invade- changing hearts and minds to faith in Christ thru the revelation of His truth. |
