Im not sure if this was heavily talked about since I tried to search it but very few results came up. Well anyways Im a pastor's kid so Im "heavily" slapped around with bible verses. Well one thing my dad hates and he's telling me Im gonna go to hell for is video games. Now Im not all really into heavy violent games; Im more stricly Racing games. I do play CS and WOW but that's meh.
But here's my question are video games that bad? I mean I dont really see it as a worldy obsession unless you freaking have like 26236246 systems with every games availabe plus everything beaten. I just play since Im bored. Work, come home, and now Im single so I just play games. Sigh...he wants me to become a better Christian and I understand but dude depriving me of games will make me a madman. |

I think the situation is unique for each individual.
You know the Truth; The Gospel. Just limit your time and don't let the games rule your life. Now if you were some evil guy who was obsessed and influenced by these games, that would be wrong..... But if you are grounded in the Truth, I don't think you are going to go start a war or shoot anyone because you play CS! ![]() |

I gave up on that...Was too addicting. I couldn't really cut my time....so either QUIT or KEEP ON PLAYING.

If they are not demonic or played to the level of obsession I don't see a problem. I have a set schedule of when my kids can play as it can easily get out of balance and become the only thing they do- this will not happen.
All that being said you are to honor your parents. Talk to them and let them know your thoughts, perhaps they will bend on this issue. But honor God in all you do and accept their ultimate descion. I know you may not like everything your mom and dad do but rest assured they do it with the best intentions towards you. Have a blessed day, brother Larry |

I am an adult, that was mine OWN decision. Whether the game was devilish or not (Yes most of my games are Satanic, due to one of the reasons why I quit) I couldn't break free from my addiction. So I believe so that God told me to quit due to my fleshly addiction.
I rather focus on the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Galatians 5:23 - Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Jag

For the longest time, I was addicted to the "Resident Evil" and "Silent Hill" games. Me and my brother would play for hours each day...I mean like 5 or 6 hours a day, it was that addicting!
It was wonderful! There were puzzles to solve, fights to win, places to explore. There was a spooky old school, a dusty old church where a hag hung out. A hospital. Zombies. Monsters. And these places would "morph" into a monstrous vision once in a while, becoming holding cells for people who were obviously taken away before I got there. When I first started, the zombies scared me to death! I'd panic while I tried to "eliminate" them. But after a while, they weren't anything - no matter how horrible the game-makers made them, it didn't take much for me to pull out my gun and shoot the zombies. I was getting used to it. My heart wouldn't race anymore. It was normal. The bad thing about the games, I think, was being desensitized to this type of thing. It's not normal to run around shooting things. It's not normal to see a horrible creature lurching out at you from the darkness. Things that you would expect to see in hell aren't supposed to be cool. Those things, to me, were frightening for a purpose. But the deeper I got into those games, the more the game-makers had to work to terrify me or gross me out. After a while, nothing seemed too hellish for me. I could roll my eyes while watching the news. My reality became those video games, with all of their DNA experiments and dark dimensions. One day, I just stopped. I got a gameboy and picked up games like Yoshi's Island, where you didn't have to kill anything. Where a terrible monster is a cute-furry little guy that floats out of the air. I can limit my time with these games. God made me a real world out there, a beautiful world that he wants me to explore and enjoy while I'm here. It's better than any video game, because I can reach out and touch things, smell things, so on. The problem I see with video games is that they pull people away from the real world, and they can sometimes make horrible things seem like the norm. There's a video game out there where people see how fast they can steal a car and then go joy-riding around the city. If enough youngsters played that game, they'd start to think that it was normal. Stealing isn't normal. In the real world, if you die, you don't magically re-appear with an extra chance. ![]() AFTERTHOUGHT: I saw on the shelves at Shopko the other day...the only game not selling was "Left Behind"

What is a stumbling block for one may not be an issue for another within scriptural guidelines of course. Paul the Apostle outlined this priciple in dealing with " grey areas"-
1Co 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. 1Co 8:5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) 1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. 1Co 8:7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. 1Co 8:8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse. 1Co 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. 1Co 8:10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; 1Co 8:11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 1Co 8:12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. 1Co 8:13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. |
