Besides constant prayer, live a life in which they see something very special and different in you.
Everything you do or say is a reflection of Christ so honor him by leading a Holy life that others will want to seek! ![]() |

This little light of mine...I'm gonna let it shine!
![]() That's excellent advice, guys...we can set an example. I'm still struggling with my older sister. She just hates that I always have joy and love in my heart. She hates that she can't make me angry. She hates that I pity her instead of returning her negative behavior. I love her, and I'd like for her to join us. By showing her how wonderful a life in Christ can be, I pray one day I can get her to ask Jesus into her life. |

Firstly, we must always remember that it is God who does the saving.... of course He uses us, or opening a person's eyes and giving them a new heart when they might read the Scriptures themselves, or perhaps listen to a moving piece of music.... God uses means to accomplish His glorious ends, of course, but it is God who is at work, the spirit going where ever He wills... causing persons to be born again... enabling them to savingly believe... ie regeneration preceding faith....
I say this because some people approach evangelism like a gunslinger, always looking to get another notch on their gun.... where evangelism becomes a sort of game as to who can "get the most decisions" for the Lord.... this mentality is what I believe has caused the church to be so shallow today, like Billy Graham said... the American church is 3000 miles but only 1 inch deep .... sadly people look just to "get decisions" and then the gunslinger/evangelist moves on to another town, often leaving the new believer is left to fend for themselves..... meaning that there is no discipleship, leaving no one to teach the new believer historic biblical Christianity.... teaching them what it means to be a Christian, not just how to act, but as important or even more so, what to believe.... and so as a result we see cults spring up... people making serious doctrinal errors... errors that have been ironed out and dealt with over 1000 years ago.... so history is doomed to repeat itself as the new believer is tossed to and fro... saying "great.... I'm a Christian... I think... aren't I...? .... now what?" From the church's perspective, there should never be evangelism without discipleship..... thankfully many church's have these things in place, but the traveling evangelists, and we as individuals who are not in the pulpit need to do a better job of helping the unbeliever know they need to count the cost, to be able to tell them the non-negotiables of Christianity... the inerrancy and infallible nature of the scriptures, that God is triune, that Jesus rose bodily from the dead and is risen still, ever making intersession for the saints before the Father's throne, and that He will return again.. that there will be a final reckoning.... the goats will be cast into hell and the sheep going to heaven, that Christianity is more than saying a prayer, signing a card, or raising a hand.... this last "technique" is especially bothersome to me... why would an evangelist EVER ask for everyone to bow their heads.... "no peeking"... and then ask for people who have just "made a decision for Christ" to raise their hand!!!! arrrrggggg!!!!!!! Jesus said if you won't acknowledge Him before men He would not recognize them before the Father!!!Anyways.... I agree with the above great answers.... yes, prayer for them... prayer that God would open their blinded eyes, reach in and take out their heart of stone and replace it with a heart of flesh, applying the benefits of Christ's work on the cross to their account, completely washing away their sins forevermore, adopting them into His family, beginning a great work in their lives that He will in fact carry out to it's conclusion, that nothing on heaven or earth will be able to separate them from the love of God!!!! as well as living out one's life in a way that is pleasing to God.... like the Newsboys song based on Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV) "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." ------------------------------------- Newsboys Shine! Shine! Make 'em wonder what you've got, Make 'em wish that they were not On the outside looking bored. Shine! Let it shine before all men. Let 'em see good works, and then Let 'em glorify the Lord. ------------------------------------- but we should also work to understand their non-Christian or even anti-Christian worldview and then dismantle it.... this is what Paul ells us to do in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (ESV) For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ," So prepare yourself mentally and spiritually to destroy arguments against our God! We must know what we believe and why it is that we believe it. Our war is not just defensive, it is offensive as well.... in Eph 6 where Paul lists what a Christian soldier should avail themselves of in terms of weaponry, and the one offensive weapon where we really "take the battle to them" is the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Also, it seems we must live out our lives in transparency before the unbeliever, people know when we are being phony... being fakes..... but when we fail, and we will.... we must be just as open and honest as is appropriate in front of everyone as we can, lest the unbeliever or a new believer who is still struggling with sin despair because everyone around him or her puts up a false front making the them think that we have it all together, that we never struggle etc, as we paste on our Sunday morning smiles and we go by everyone.... especially on Sunday mornings... telling everyone everything is just great, when we are just as broken and confused in some areas as the unbeliever or new believer might be...we can't pretend to always have it all together when we all know very well that we don't... life is hard, but God is good... right??? so we should share our triumphs in the Lord right along side sharing our failures, our sins.... and we must take the time to understand what the unbeliever really believes, how do they answer the great questions of life? And when we see their error we lovingly as possible share with their error and how it is that Christ is the answer..... we have to invest the time and energy into this activity, enabling us to intelligently critique their worldview and tell the unbeliever that Christ Jesus is the only way to make sense of the world.... and that in the Scriptures we have everything we need for life and godliness, that all others paths besides the one that leads to Christ are false paths... just as we are to go to the ends of the earth, preaching the gospel to all nations, we are to likewise be ready always to give an account for the hope that is within us, and thus tell them why it is they are feeling empty inside because the Christian worldview is the only one that ultimately answers the most important questions in life... who am I? is there a God? why do I sin? why is there evil? how can I be made right with God? we can tell them why that their hearts are restless, and that they will never know true peace, for their only rest is in God, who has formed us for Himself..... showing them that we are no different today then we were nearly 2000 years ago when Austine prayed "our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee". Romans 5:1-2 (NASB77) Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. blessings, Ken |
