In this day and age we have no choice.
Only a handful of people could buy houses if we didn't borrow from the bank. Same with cars and we have to have them to get to work, in most situations. The Bible says to owe no man money. As long as you pay your bills on time, as is in any agreement, you are paying back what you owe. As far as borrowing from a person, personally, I see nothing wrong with it and the agreement concerning repayment is between the 2 of you. If you ever promise to pay someone back, and don't, that is the same as stealing. |

I personally don't see anything wrong unless of course you get carried away and go over Your head and then you can't pay the bills. Of course discretion is always a good policy and to ask the Lord is this a need or a want. We still hve to be good stewards of our money and of course out of the top goes into the storehouse.
Too many people say ..... ooh I don't have any money to give to God because my bills are too high but maybe they should look and see why and how their bills got so high. We do not have to keep up with the Jones'.

Living in North America, it's very difficult to fathom anyone not ever borrowing money, even Christians. The economy, especially in America is kept afloat on borrowed money which is where they get that 9 trillion dollar debt from. This has created an economic bubble that can only be maintained if the federal reserve slashes interest rates to the bone once again. So people are encouraged to borrow money, get more credit cards, take out second morgages, and spend, spend, spend.
As far as Christians borrowing money---the bible doesn't encourage or condemn it, but it does advise against careless debt: 26Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts. 27If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee? Proverbs 22:26-27 Paul also said in Romans 13:8 to "owe no man anything". Essentially, what the bible is trying to say is do not be always straddled with debt by borrowing money you can't pay back. Reckless borrowing, surety for debt, inclined to always be in hock is what the bible means. As long as you make your payments and do not reneg on them, I see nothing wrong with simple borrowing. |

I personally don't believe in borrowing money, except short term, if you can't avoid it. For that reason, I don't have a house or a very nice car but I don't have any debt either. I'm only indebted to God, to whom I owe all. Without his faithful love and amazing grace, I wouldn't be here typing at all.
