Peninnah and Hannah were both wives of Elkanah.
Peninnah was able to have many children but Hannah was barren; no children. Peninnah taunted Hannah about the fact that she herself had children but Hannah did not. Hannah went and humbled herself before God at the temple and begged for a child and in return she promised to give this child to God. God answered her prayer and she kept her promise. She gave her 3 year old son to the teachers of the tabernacle and visited him often. Her son was Samuel. |
