To further add to this, which I agree with, I would say if mixed swimming is a stumbling block to you, then I would not participate. If your weakness is seeing other guys/girls in swimsuits, perhaps that situation should be avoided. That is pretty much true with anything. |

My grandfather was once passed over for a higher position in the church because his son went to the local YMCA to swim because girls were allowed to swim there as well.
He lost another because a member of the church came to his house for prayer late at night and saw his daughter wearing blue jeans. A friend of his gave up preaching entirely when he was fired from a church because his wife came to church with sleeves that only went down to her elbows. When I think about these things, I have to wonder, what kind of perverts these people must have been to consider these things to be "temptation". I like to think I have a bit more control over my lusts than to "sin" every time I see a woman wearing jeans.

Wasn't allowed in Church functions when I was a teenager. The bikini did not exist then either, which would not have been allowed. All were one piece suits.
My wife never left me watch "Baywatch" or go to the "Hooters" restaurants, so I had no temptation to deal with. |

Lust is in the eye of the beholder.
Also we Christians have a responsibility to not purposely cause our brothers and sisters to lust. BUT.....a line has to be drawn somewhere. I like Brother Larry's outlook on mixed swimming. And Ban, my husband always said he found women in dresses having much more sex appeal than those in tight jeans. There are too many ignorant rules that don't apply to Christianity but to obedience to the rule makers!!! SO WRONG! |

^^ Oh...I never said TIGHT jeans. They were just normal baggy jeans. Not the current styles, this was about 50 years ago...on a farm....in the middle of nowhere in a small town in Ohio.

I KNEW you were going to come back and say that!
I did!!! ![]() No, I was adding more drama to the jean factor in that even TIGHT jeans aren't appealing to some men, let alone loose or baggy ones~ |

![]() There was an article in the paper a while back about a local men's swim team. They'd won some kind of a championship, and everybody was so proud of them. But one lady wrote to the paper demanding that they discontinue showing photos of the swimteam. Because, she said, the outfits were revealing and left very little to the imagination. There's perverts out there, she said, who would take the pictures wrong. It fed immorality in our society.Well...I got out my pen and paper and wrote my own letter. I said that there was nothing wrong with the photos...when I saw them, I was so proud of the guys! I saw a team with an accomplishment! The pervert that this woman was fearing, I said, was in her own heart. Congratulations, I said, she had just seen an innocent photo through the eyes of the very person she was pointing a finger at. I think when we get to the point where the human body is something of evil and wickedness, we need counseling and God in our lives. We need to reformulate our thinking so that innocence becomes innocent once again. Swimming is for fun. That's what most people have when they go swimming. There's nothing wrong with that. But the wicked man standing in the corner thinking bad thoughts needs to recognize that these feelings are hurtful. He should be the one seeking help, I think. Yeesh, when I go swimming, I'm usually dressed like an Eskimo anyways, he he he.

Sometimes, I almost wonder if extreme modesty is basically celebrating the original sin. Then I go to the mall and see the way some of the girls dress there, and suddenly am overcome with a great desire to join the Pilgrims or the Amish @_@.
Even nudity would be less sexually stimulating than some of the clothes people wear out in public.
