Question Is this a sin?

Is it a sin to think that i'm better than the
person who is sitting next to me ...etc interms
of my abilities, skills, intelect, appearance...etc?
e.g.: If two people apply for a job vacancy the
company hires the person who is best out of the
two candidates. Therefore is it a sin for the selected
candidate to think that he is better than the person who
hasn't got selected for the job?

cheers

Default Absorbed

I have a friend who before Church even starts she is every Sunday totally absorbed in herself. As Christians ( and I say this in )

We are supposed to be absorbed in the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Especially at Church. But thinking that you are better than anyone else at anything (though I know we all have qualities and talents better than someone else ) I don't feel in an expression of Gods love towards others in our hearts.

As much as possible, by the Help of the Holy Spirit our minds should be conformed into the mind of Christ

In truth the bible teaches us to prefer one another- basically to put others first for "the first shall be last and the last shall be first"- Jesus. The disciples had this same discusion and Jesus gave them a loving attitude adjustment.

No two people have exactly the same skill levels. I know that I've interviewed a lot of people, and the ones I hire are not intrinsically better than the ones I don't. It's a decision based on many, many facts, not the least of which is a gut feeling about the person that you are now going to be spending a lot of time with, and will be personally responsible for their performance. You may be hired because you have a better skill set, your skills set matches the job needs more closely, or because you simply smiled at the right time during the interview. It doesn't make you a better person, because on a different day in a different company the situation may very well be reversed. It just means you were the better candidate at that particular time in that particular place.

The only "better" I recognize is a person who seeks to improve themselves versus those that choose to be lazy and life in a squalor that they themselves built.

Yes it is a sin. We are told to be humble and being absorbed in self is not humility. It is vanity.

Ephesians 4:13
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

It is wrong to think yourself better than someone else.
It is okay to consider yourself better qualified for a task.
We are not all hands or feet, or eyes, or ears.
We are not all accountants, or lawyers (or woodturners )

To think you are better than someone because you are anything is wrong but you can probably do some things better than others can do them.

We are all made in the image of God, but for different tasks.
Does that make sense?

Psalm 10:4
In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.

I would also say his person is full of pride for themselves and is not putting God first in their life.
