Sometimes, when things are at there utter worst for me, I wonder what the point of life is. Christianity gives us the hope of salvation, that something happens when we die. For if nothing happened and we simply ceased to be, I would see practically no meaning or significance to my life.
But even with the hope of salvation, it's still hard for me to really care about things that much. Sometimes I feel like I could not care whether there is peace or war on earth. But the thing that motivates me is that if I do great deeds, than others will look up to me and try to follow in my path, as I do in Jesus', and also that God might be proud of me. The fact that others can feel so moved by great acts of righteousness is what fulfills me. I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't really get a sense of high from doing these acts. I simply do them for others to feel inspired, but it still has very little significance to me. I just like that it has great significance for others. What is going to happen if we get into heaven? Where there is no more suffering and torment as there is on this earth. What will there be left to do? What will be fulfilling? What will be the meaning of our existence and what will truly make us happy? What will be the point of everything? For me, I struggle all the time to understand why its so important to be good and what the true point of existence is. I guess I wonder how God existing makes things have more of a point to them. |

My faith is very weak, but I know that I have it. I don't believe in Christianity the way I believe 1 +1 = 2, but I do think I have faith. I don't always feel the way I mentioned in my original post. Doing good things does make me feel really good sometimes, and I do get comfort thinking that God gives a meaning to life. But other times I think to myself, what does God have that allows life to be meaningful? I wonder what the true point of existence is. It's hard for me to grasp the point of everything sometimes.
I'm sorry. I just started having faith a few weeks ago. For my whole life I have not had it. It's really hard for me to deal with and I am really struggling with it. I am most likely speaking out of ignorance in my first post. I mainly wrote it to relieve stress. I guess it just really frustrates me how weak my faith is. |

Faith is something that grows.
Inner peace in 'just being' is something we get from God's spirit dwelling within us. This world can be harsh, careless, cruel and meaningless. God and only God can give any meaning to it! Sometimes it is hard for us to even look back and remember a time when life felt carefree, we had utter peace, and happiness and joy were the norm day to day. If you can remember the best time of your life when you were at your happiest, just know that is merely a spec compared to the true joy and happiness you will have in heaven. Maybe some of us have had so much pain or heartache that we can't even comprehend what true happiness and joy above all joy can even feel like. Life is only a struggling, winding path to the real thing which waits for us up ahead. What joy does the homeless man on the street have, the fatherless, the abused, the starving....... ......if we can serve mankind to the best of our ability, taking away one sorrow at a time for others, and spread The Truth of Jesus, we WILL find a joy within us as we wait for our final reward. And it WILL be worth it! |

you need some more understanding of your salvation what God has provided you... and you derserve nothing of it... it all free then if you taught the Rapture that we have a gracious judgement where God only judges the good works 1 cor 3:12-15 on the motives, content, and results ... basically if you did it throu the spirit or the flesh they stay or get burned up... but you are still saved Christ work not your own .. john 6:29 Then finding a person who understands a proper view on Prophecy Knowing Gods will ... eph 5:17-32, 1 thes 5:15-18

I understand Learis that you are new to your faith and that you sound like you somewhat doubt it or haven't totally started living by faith, this is a big step one that we all shall make as new Christians.
Just remember this there is the Holy Spirit that will fill you each day you live in His will. This will grow as you grow in your faith. take note in the fact that we must "Walk By Faith, Not by Sight" 2 Cor 5:7. This will be difficult at first just follow through with the commitment you have already made by accepting Christ into your heart and trust that his will in your life will follow if you are willing and ask for his will daily in your life.

Just like the apostles who hid in fear we must see Jesus ressurected and triumphant over sin and death- just like those same apostles we will loose all fear as we come to realize that He is God over all and we are safe in His hands- just like the apostles we can began to realize that this life is just a flash, a morning dew- indeed only a test to see if we really want to walk with Jesus. The more we see of Him the more we become like Him.
The scripture declares we are each given a measure of faith and sometimes we indeed cry out: Lord I believe, help me in my unbelief". The scripture gives us two ways to build ( or grow in) our faith: Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Get into your Word- remember the Holy Spirit is your teacher so ask His help in understanding and applying it to your life Jud 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Ask the Holy Spirit to help you pray- He knows and is always willing to help Many blessings on your day your brother Larry |
