What ever is very important I will hear about one way or another! I remember when I enjoyed the news, long ago. The truth is, I don't watch T.V.~I can't sit still long enough!

I'm something of a new junkie myself, but I only get my news from net~I unplugged cable/local tv last year.

I'll watch the occaisonal podcast of nbc/cbs and Meet the Press, but that's about it.

News is news, and if simply reported is one thing, but broadcast generally uberpersonalizes stuff to the point of making it super-emotional, like interviewing the victims/grieving in ways that are probably best kept private.

MrJim, yes, about the personal stuff. I can pray for many people and many events without knowing ALL the detailed drama!

You are right, suffering makes "good" news, sad that it is that way.

I believe we are living in the last days- as such I enjoy watching events unfold and fit into the Masters plans- I don't like the suffering but it is a part of life on this cursed earth.

Personally I think you should watch the news, how do we as christians know to pray about stuff if we aren't aware that it's going on?

Like a small town close to me had a family tragedy - one son murdered his brother, it rocked the district - someone in my church was unaware this had even occurred a week later because they don't believe in watching the news.

Ps I'm not talking the gossipy stuff, just the facts.

Dear Smelly Cat,

May God be with you!

I agree! I don't generally watch the news or even read it. I do tune in regularly to the local Catholic radio station, Relevant Radio.

Going further, since I have school age children, there is no TV during the school week for my girls, nor do I let them watch children's "sit-coms" like Hanna Montana, It's so Raven etc. They do nothing but trash traditional family life, encourage dating in pre-teens and other behaviors inappropriate to all children.

As parents we do have the ultimate responsibility for our children's moral and religious education. Being parents is a vocation from God that we need to all take seriously and with Joy! If we intentionally neglect our duty to our children as parents, we will end up in hell.

This may seem harsh, but it is what I believe. Jesus said, "let all the little children come to me." He also said that we are not to lead them astray. With Jesus as our guide, our inspiration, our Hope and our Joy, we will have supernatural help to bring up our children to know and love our Lord.

God bless you!
