If we fail to do good, when it is well within our power to do so, is it just as "bad" of a sin as a direct act ?
If we see some good thing that we can do to help another person, and we just decide to do nothing, and as a result that person suffers a great deal of harm, is it not a sin ? Here is my "bad" example. You are fishing on a river bank and a huge waterfall is just down stream. A baby in a basket floats by crying. You can hear and see the baby crying. The water is only wading deep. You could easily wade out to rescue the baby but you ignore it and it floats over the waterfall and dies. Since you could have saved the baby, but did not, are you not JUST AS GUILTY as if YOU threw the baby into the water yourself ? How does this apply to your life ? Who could you have helped but did not ? Are we not all guilty of not doing good when it was within our power to do so ? Sins of omission, sins of commission. In some cases is there really THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE ? JESUS bless you, dave

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

You know the empty felling you get when you see something awful and do nothing, that should be a clue. Sometimes by doing nothing we do everything. So next time when you see a brother or a sister in a need of help remember this words. God bless

It's not so much that you are as guilty as the person who threw the baby in the water. We tend to look at sin in terms of severity, and while that may be true in terms of the punishment, it isn't a standard God necessarily considers.
Stealing a candy bar from a store is a sin. Shooting someone with no cause is a sin. A = B = C. God tell us that the wages of sin is death. He doesn't say, "For murder, theft, rape, and blasphemy, the wages of sin is death, but for lust, it's ten lashes and solitary confinement for a year." No. You sin, you are hell bound without the grace of God. A sin of commission is equal to a sin of omission in terms of whether or not that sin is worthy of Hell. The punishment on this earth may be different, but the punishment in the afterlife is the same.

Although the devil has had thousands of years to learn mans weakness and how to trip him up God is greater than all .If evil was as smart as it thinks it would not have rebelled against the Most High God
