Is it right or wrong?
I'm firmly in the idea that it's right - a way to communicate to God with your own private language. But what do others think? God Bless you all

My face!! You stole my face!! Aaaaa!!!
Anyway, I've read way too much about how speaking in tongues is supported in the Bible. However, I've not seen a version of it that is consistent with what is written in the Bible about it. Is it possible? Yeah, sure. But, I've seen some sects of Christianity that believe that it is the definitive sign of Christianity. In other words, you aren't saved until you are baptized in the Holy Spirit and speak in an unknown tongue. Yet Paul warns against this, and I personally follow his warnings. If there is speaking in tongues, then let there be translators. The people in the Upper Room and the areas around them, heard their words in their OWN tongue. Nobody heard "gibberish". In addition, due to my own previous ties to pagan practices, I'm much, MUCH more wary of pronouncing words I don't inherently know the meaning of. How can you know for sure that it's the Spirit, and not demon possession, or "faking"? I've heard some that IMO are legit, but I've seen many, many more that were just gibberish. Biggest difference to me, is that the "real" think, I have been able to understand or at least "feel". The gibberish, too many times, I think is just that. |

It was a sign to unbelievers. 1 Cor 14:22
The unbelievers were Jews, the ones that knew the words of Isaiah. 1 Cor 14:21. It's not well understood today. If it was it would be gone, IMHO. |

I trust the Bible about the question of speaking in tongues.
Jesus said: And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (Mk.16:17,18) If these are Christ's words, I believe in them with all my heart. I don't want to raise an objection against somebody's oppinion. But it's a reality for today, not the past. This is one of God's gifts which He gives to His children. (But I don't mind that you aren't saved until you are baptized in the Holy Spirit and speak in an unknown tongue). Read 1Corinthians 14 |

Please, excuse me for my mistakes in English.
I wanted to say: "I don't think that you aren't saved until you are baptized in the Holy Spirit and speak in an unknown tongue". ![]() Paul explains in 1Co.14 the aim of this gift: "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church". So this gift of tongues helps Christians in their prayers ["Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered (Ro.8:26)] and in spiritual growing. But we shouldn't forget that the Scripture warns us, that "...For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more". (Lk.12:48) God bless!

Have none of you ever worshipped God with all your heart, when you are all alone, and spoke in tongues?
There is no doubt it is of God~ But I agree with what Banarenth has said except I have no translators when I feel God's spirit in worship and I am alone! I believe God can pour his spirit out upon you when it is just He and you. |
