There are always plenty of churches so the key is finding the one God is calling you to- I know that is easy to say but I believe He will ultimately bring you to a church you can call home- you are in my prayers- your brother ( or bother) Larry

Good question Sister-sometimes (and very frequently) Pastors are extremely overworked and may need time to get back to you. I want you to know I am feeling your pain as I am going to be moving soon and it will be difficult to replace my local church, it is an awesome place filled with awesome people-

Alot of times:
(1): Churches do not really know nor understand that in many ways, they are like customer service where the promptness of returning a call or answering e-mail says alot about their church. Around here, there are churches that have an answering machine and you never talk to an actual person and most of the time never get a call back. OR (2): Churches see people on the outside who ask lots of questions as 'agents of Satan'

The criteria that Christians might wish to consider is whether or not a particular 'church' TEACHES God's Word, with understanding, chapter by chapter and verse by verse. If a particular 'church' has a weekly sermon without in-depth teaching, that church is not doing God's Work. Worse yet, is a 'church' that doesn't teach the Word at all... and there are FAR too many of those, as we all know.
Violet's question in her first post asked, "What if you can not find a church that you are satisfied with?" Well, I "found" mine - it's 7 feet due west of my Rectory office...LOL.

Thank you all so much for your responses.
I like preaching as well as teaching and want both. Where we 'occasionally' go there is no preaching, no altar call. I can't remember if hell has ever been mentioned~ I found one church online that seemed all I was looking for. Then I saw the Pastor's family pictures. Maybe I appear judgemental but the pastor's wife herself had on alot of jewelry, a bright red dress, lowcut. Sorry, but I felt if this was what they chose to portray, it didn't feel comfortable to me. I see nothing wrong with jewelry, minimal makeup, etc....but honestly, I am looking for truly humble Christians. I don't like showy churches or people in them. There is always something missing I feel. I'm tired of cliques and personal competition within the churches. Do many people forget what church is for??? |

I don't think one woman should stop you at least going along and seeing what the churches about. Maybe that one pastors wife is self conscious and wanted to look good for picture day?! I know my mum wouldn't go in pictures without looking her very best, and she's the most humble (or one of) women I know.
Go along and see how it is. You could find that same woman to be as humble as anything! |
