Reading the Bible daily Prayer Fasting Attending Church Services to Stay strengthened and fed spiritually I believe if you are truly saved that Praise and worship will come naturally, a hunger to know more about God, Peace, Love, and Joy come as part of the package. Why fasting?!
Jesus said the only way to the father is through me. To be saved and remain saved, all you have to do is accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour and live your life as a witness to him. |

I can understand starving the body of things that are of no importance other than entertainment, such as tv, secular music and video games, but food is more essential than that. I don't really see fasting as a necessity in prasing and devoting to God.

When you are truly saved you will have this willingness to serve God. Out of love and gratitude for what Jesus did for us. What Jesus did on that cross cannot be repayed. All we can do is give over our hearts to him and allow him to decide in our life. Salvation is trusting in Jesus, and knowing that he knows what's best. That is why we will obey what he has asked of us.

You've even pointed out part of the problem when you said "I believe". The situation of "what it takes to be saved" doesn't call for an opinion. It's universal, an absolute if you will. It's like saying "I believe that to be saved all I have to do is love my neighbor as myself". Just because I believe it doesn't make it true. Going to church, reading the Bible, praying, fasting, and worshiping God are just things that we do to keep ourselves close to God. But you can't start addressing these as criteria for salvation. If you want to do this then you're going to have to address it in more detail "how many hours of prayer, fasting, and worshipping do you have to do each day to keep your salvation? How often do you have to go to church to keep your salvation?" In order for your version to work, you must keep each one of these precisely to keep yourself saved. However, the overlying majority problem with this is that if you can keep yourself saved by doing these things, then you obviously can attain salvation itself through these things. Forgiveness of sins is a single, infinite process. It's not about saying "oh hey you know what, since you only prayed and worshiped today but not fasted, you're not going to have your sins for tomorrow forgiven." It just doesn't work like that. Salvation and eternity with God is ours just for the asking. We do things to conform ourselves to Christ so that we may be more ready for our eternity and so that we may show the World who we belong to.

Well... The way I see it, once you are saved, you're set. You're going to heaven if you honestly accepted Christ at some point. I think the rest of that stuff is to grow. Fasting doesn't always apply to food, I think it's more a matter of self-denial, exercising the spirits dominion over the soul.

Once saved always saved?
I can't believe that. JRF is right that we need effort on our part to stay saved. If God has already forgiven our future sins, what is to keep us from sinning? The Bible says the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. We could so easily use that as an excuse to sin, with an "Ah well, God will forgive me" attitude. |
