I've never seen the ads but I'd have to agree with you!
Can you just imagine some knucklehead thinking, "Sure, I never did it for forgiveness, love, or heaven, but I'll do it for a free psp! "That is ridiculous to even advertise such a thing~ |

There is a church in my part of the country that has once a month, a free drawing for $100.00. However, they do not tell you when the once-a-month occurs to where it tries to force you to attend weekly because you have to be present and in the sanctuary at the time to win.

It is all too common for fringe ministries and even some large denominations to use ANY means at hand to bring in CASH. Look at the dozens of TV ministers who rent TV time each week to broadcast their message of "SEND US YOUR CASH". These so called ministers are NOT representatives of God. Quite the contrary; they are representatives of a board of directors and shareholders in some cases and representatives of their own greed in the other cases. They have made religion into a business - EVEN those who are registered as 501(c)(3) non profiit, tax exempt entities MANIPULATE the tax laws in order to provide themselves with "crystal cathedrals", boats, aircraft, limo's and sizable paychecks for the "minister".
BUT what does scripture tell us about those who beg in the name of God or Christ ? Please follow along in scripture: What did Christ say to His Apostles and Disciples as he sent them out to teach His Good News... Luke 9:1-5 (NLT): "1 One day Jesus called together his twelve apostles and gave them power and authority to cast out demons and to heal all diseases. 2 Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the coming of the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 3"Don't even take along a walking stick," he instructed them, "nor a traveler's bag, nor food, nor money. Not even an extra coat. 4 When you enter each village, be a guest in only one home. 5 If the people of the village won't receive your message when you enter it, shake off its dust from your feet as you leave. It is a sign that you have abandoned that village to its fate." The 'traveler's bag' in this verse was also called a 'begging bag' in the Greek language translation. What this means is that God will never send out beggars to do His work. THOSE WHO ASK for money are NOT of God - but have their own agenda at heart. While giving a tithe or love offering to the Minister that 'feeds you' the Word properly is appropriate, their ASKING for or demanding donations to maintain a Ministry is not. Do not play their games. Rebuke ANY religious organization that puts their greedy hands in your poskets to remove your hard earned cash! |

Wow, that is so disturbing, and fairly upsetting. If a person gives their life to Jesus for an earthly prize I fear that have not given their life at all and have received their only reward in the form of a worthless electronic gadget.
