Here is the situation several people in my youth group told me that is impossible to go without sinning.
But i believe that after becoming so consumed with Christ and His Holy Spirit it is very possible. Before I start I would like to state what i am not saying. 1.I am not saying that we alone have the power to stop sinning. 2.I am not saying that we will not be tempted. Here is what i am saying. 1. Christ must first control every aspect of our life. 2.Through our relationship with Jesus Christ we can be so consumed in Him and His will so much that we can go without sinning. Here is my scriptural support. Our thoughts should be that of holy things which should wipe out the sin of having bad thoughts if you keep your mind on heavenly things. Ephesians 4:23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Philippians 4:8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. With Jesus sin loses it's power over us. John 15:22 They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin. 1 Corinthians 15:57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Samuel 12:25 But if you continue to sin, you and your king will be swept away. Titus 2:14 He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. 1 John 3:6 Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is. 2 Corinthians 7:10 For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation Genesis 4:7 You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” Any thoughts?

Greetings Sent!
Interesting. The first thing that struck me is that if one has the attitude that it is impossible to not sin, then one expects to sin. If one expects to sin then it would seem that sin is justified. Because it cannot be avoided, then we are somehow free to sin and it will be forgiven. And I would say that is the wrong way to look at things. We are not free to sin. Nor should it be in us to rationalize sinning that way before the sin is committed. After the fact, if one was weak and stumbled, we can recieve solace in knowing that Jesus Christ forgives us and wants us still - that's unconditional love for you. There are people around here that are better at this stuff than me, it's sort of late though. I liked the scriptures you referrenced and would say that you are on the right track. And there are some periferral issues that it would seem need to be addressed as well. But I'm with you on this, to a large degree. With God anything is possible, and not sinning is certainly a good thing. God Bless and welcome to CFS! James |

Very interesting topic! However, I will agree with several people in your youth group. First off, I think of Job, whom was seen as blameless in the eyes of the Lord. But I do not think that he was perfect or sinless. I used to think of being sinless and perfect as being one and the same, but now I do not. I think Job was just as much a sinner as his wife and friends, but the difference being that he constantly reconciled with God. Therefore God saw him as being blameless. A sinner who, on the other hand, willingly sins is not seen as blameless before God's eyes. Therefore, I think we can never stop sinning, but we can stop wanting to sin! There's no guarantee that you'll not fall down when walking through a field. There are so many gopher holes unseen! I don't think God expects us (or even wants us) to walk without stumbling once in a while. I think we need to sin in order for us to remain close to God...it's His way for us to rely on Him and to show us that we can never be as good as Him. We can never say we are like God! That was Satan's demise! So, he doesn't want us to sin, but He allows us to stumble. And I think many of the verses you mentioned are referring to a daily renewal (confession).

Wow, that's interesting. My first thought is that if someone truly believes they are sinless, they're extremely prideful. Proverbs 16:18 says:
Quote:
The other thing we might be overlooking are sins of commission (committing a sin or act we know is wrong) and sins of ommission (not doing something we should do). If a person is truly sinless, they would NOT DO what they are supposed to avoid, but at the same time DO everything they were supposed to...that's a lot tougher. Is not sharing the Gospel when prompted by the Spirit a sin? Is not helping the poor a sin? I don't really know, but the water gets pretty murky. Quote:
Anyway, those are my thoughts. If you find anyone that can achieve it, let us know! |

1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1Jn 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. Is this a contradiction? This subject is best viewed in consideration of mans nature- God created man in His own image- God is tripartate- Father, Son ,Holy Spirit man is tripartate- spirit, soul, body Gen 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. when mankind disobeyed God they did not fall dead in their bodies but they suffered a spiritual death cutting them off from all communion with the Lord God- this in turn caused corruption in their souls as for the first time they (without God's guidance) tried to decide right from wrong- as sin and corruption filled their minds they fiannlay suffered a physical death At the point of salvation man is given a new spirit as prophesied in: Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. Eze 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. on the day of Christ return we will be ressurected from the dead or changed- we will be given a new body given a new body: 1Co 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 1Co 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. This leaves the problem of the soul (mind, intellect, emotions, will) -this is the part of us that Jesus came to save - we are told to be : Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. God requires us to be : Eph 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; (to be renewed in the very life force of your mind) Even the great a Apostle Paul struggles and sinned: Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. SO HOW DO WE ACCOMPLISH THIS : Gal 5:16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Rom 8:1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. The answer it seems is we have the ability to be sinless but only when we are walking in the Spirit- this is the place where our spirit is in complete union and submission the the will and purpose of God's Holy Spirit- our spirit directs our soul (mind, intellect, emotions, will) and as our mind is renewed in an area that part of our thinking is sanctified (set apart for God's use and purpose) - we are justified by Christ and sanctified by His Word thru the Holy Spirit- this happens in one area at a time as we surrender our old fleshly way of thinking and began to believe and walk out God's truth by faith- When His Spirit fills and leads our spirit- our spirit leads and transforms our souls and our bodies act out the condition of our souls- but make no mistake- any area that is not renewed in your mind will stink of rotting flesh and any deeds it performs no matter how noble they may appear are but filthy rags 1Co 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 1Co 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. Eph 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. 1Sa 10:6 And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. Let the Spirit of the Lord come upon you-be continually filled and you will not sin but try to move in your own power and strength and : Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Gal 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? LET US DRAW NEAR TO GOD- HEAR HIS HEARTBEAT- KNOW HIS WILL AND WAY- Last edited by Boanerges; 04-24-2007 at 11:05 PM. |
