Wink Can we talk about Easter?

Hello all

Easter is just around the corner and I was thinking it would be nice to talk a little about different Easter traditions. Growing up in Romania, we always celebrated Easter. The traditional meal was oven roasted lamb, hard boiled egs which we died red and various other side dishes, depending on what each family had. Looking back it's amazing to me how, even though in comunist Romania food was scarce, Romanians always managed to gather a lot of it for Easter and Christmas. Anyway... One really interesting thing about Easter in Romania though is that although we were tought there was no God, every year when we started our meal with the braking of egs(each person took an egg, then we hit the other person's egg to see which one breaks first... Don't laugh...) we said the following: Cristos a inviat (Which means Christ is risen) and the other person responded: Adevarat a inviat (Which means: Truly He is risen). To this day I can't explain how we knew, somehow, that there is a God!

So, what was your Easter tradition growing up?

I'm still growing up!!!

Pretty much the traditional stuff for me. Easter baskets, Good Friday and Sunrise services, big meal with the family afterwards. We never did Easter egg hunts much, but a lot of kids did.

Actually easter is found only in the King James Bible and is considered a mistranslation - myself I don't mind which day someone might pick to celebrate the ressurection of our Lord and "easter" is one of those days when even quasi-religious people will show up for church- Praiser God maybe something will sink in!
As far as my family we will have a awesome worship service to go to and then a nice dinner with whatever family anf freinds we can wrangle to come over- A good time is shared by all and we make shure His Name is lifted up.

Boanerges, this is a bit off topic but what you posted reminded me of the No Excuse Sunday.

NO EXCUSE SUNDAY

To make it possible for everyone to attend church next Sunday, we are going to have a special "No Excuse Sunday".

Cots will be placed in the foyer for those who say, "Sunday is my only day to sleep in." There will be a special section with lounge chairs who feel that our pews are too hard. Eye drops will be available for those with tired eyes from watching T.V. late Saturday night.

We will have steel helmets for those who say "The roof would cave in if I ever came to church." Blankets will be furnished for those who think the church is too cold and fans for those who say it is too hot. Score cards will be available for those who wish to list the hypocrites present.

Relatives and friends will be in attendance for those who can't go to church and cook dinner, too. We will distribute "Stamp Out Stewardship" buttons for those who feel that church is always asking for money. One section will be devoted to trees and grass for those who like to seek God in nature. Doctors and nurses will be in attendance for those who plan to be sick on Sunday.

The sanctuary will be decorated with both Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies for those who never have seen the church without them. We will provide hearing aids for those who can't hear the preacher and cotton for those who say he is to loud.

Yes, it's a joke.

Somebody has taken all the common excuses for not attending church and made a poem out of them. It's supposed to be a joke, but it's almost too true to be funny.
