Reading the bible is like eating ice cream- all the different translations have a little different flavor to them. I feel as though I am just scratching the surface -

Rectory Study Bible: "The Companion Bible" which is an Authorized King James Version of 1611 with word origin notations in the margin from E.W. Bullinger. This 'Companion Bible" is used along with an original vintage "Strong's Complete Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, Red Letter Edition", to reference back to the Original Manuscript Languages in Hebrew, Aramaic, Chaldean and 'street' Greek.
Every Day Reading: "The New Living Translation" by Tyndale Publishing ( most accurate modern wording compared to the texts of the KJV in the opinion of many evaluators.) Also in our Chapel Library: Vintage issues of "The New International Version"; "The Revised Standard Edition" and "The Living Bible" - which are just used to determine false translation parameters as compared to the Original Manuscripts. Please remember that possessing ANY Bible is better than none at all. Stay in God's Word - Use the research tools that God has provided. Compare various versions and try to look for the original word meanings as placed on stone tablets and parchment manuscripts by the Prophets and Scribes, for a more in-depth understanding of God's Message to us: The Holy Bible. |

I find it interesting that there are so many camps so to speak that are convinced that they have the correct translations there seem to be quite a few- I like the bible in all its flavors and I haven't read a bad one yet.

That was always a concern, the translation. I would rather do the enterpreting, just let someone translate it directly. I had heard that the KJV was the best translation, so that's what I read. The "Companion Bible" sounds like something I would be interested in if it is the KJV with more background on the how things were translated.
Why bibles are manufactured the way they are is beyond me. Half of them are not made to read, they are made to look at. Pages so thin you could roll a cigarette out of one. Italics that make the words hard to read. Bindings that fail when the book is read. Spent money on one bible and it was essentially useless. Had to go out and get another one. Cost 1/10 of the price and it's a work horse. Happiness is a good bible. |
