Looking back over my calendar today I noticed that 5 of the funerals that I had done over the past year were for people who had been married for 50 years or longer. I couldn't help but feel a pain in my heart as I thought of how hard it must have been on the spouse that was left behind after all the years of marriage.
What amazing memories they must have built together. They had gone through the newly wed stage, the children stage and the empty nest stage. I was in awe as I sat there thinking about how much more I still had left to experience in my own marriage. Where will I be in another 30 years? What kind of intimacy and marriage will we have after 50 plus years. "The old man held the hand of his wife as she lay in the hospital bed. She was weak and quiet. He had tears in his eyes as he prayed she'd hear what he had to say. And he told her...." So I looked to the "Old Man" for advice. He'd just lost his wife of 57 years. "Was it worth it" I asked? His response was amazing ... I've got the full story on my blog today if you'd like to finish the story.... <---- click here or See my Signature below... May God bless "Old Men and Old Marriages...."

My parents were married 52 years when my dad passed away, he was the finest man I have ever known and it was a priviledge to be called his son. Mom and Dad really loved each other and painted a picture of love for all of us to see and aspire to.

We married in 1968. I just came out of the army when we took the big step.
There were a lot of "ups" and "downs", the "downs" were mostly my doings. Twelve years later, in 1980, we bumped into Jesus Christ, a life changing experience! Since then there have only be a few "downs", mostly due to the weather. Jesus pulled me through a major heart attack three years ago, the doctors said I would not survive the night. They put me on a jet for a 1000 mile trip. Four by-passes later and we'r back riding motorcycles all summer. Last year right across Canada. Praise God. He decided it was not my time yet to go home. |

Struick that reminds me of an expierience , a little off topic but a good testimony- my dad went in for a bypass surgery , it was his second one and things were looking rough. His heart and lungs were stuck to his rib cage -this was the result of scar tissue from his first heart surgery. a After almost 12 hours on the table his doctor came out and told us the he had received 72 units of blood and they couldn't stop the bleeding. He told my family that my dad was going to die and there was nothing he could do.Well I knelt down in that little room and asked my heavenly Father not to let me dad die until he knew Him. Less than 10 minues later the doctor came back in and said the bleeding had "just stopped"- we enjoyed mt dad for 2 more years and HE DID RECEIVE CHRIST"!
Like I said of topic but just wanted to share that with my brother Struick and with apologies- I'm not trying to hijack the post. |

My brother in law and I were chatting about a month ago and he reminded me that it was close to their anniversary. He said, " You know, I've been happily married for 29 years... 29 out of 40 isn't so bad, is it?"
I just shook my head.... |
