Can you have too many Bibles lying around your house or in your possession? This was a topic that got brought up the other day in one of my discussions and I wanted to get a general consensus of what everyone thinks.
I personally believe no you can't. I have roughly 5-12 bibles I'd say lying around the house in various places. (Within reason of course...i.e. you stay within your finical means and don't expand your budget, meet all your finical obligations etc...) My reasoning’s are varied, but to list a couple... Say for instance your having a bible study at your house, and the previous week you assigned the task for each person to bring a guest with them the following week, saved or unsaved didn't matter. It just so happens that 3 people either didn't bring a bible with them or forgot them. If you have a few extra bibles lying around then everyone can follow along and not feel embarrassed or ashamed or left out because they don't have one or didn't bring one. Example #2: You’re witnessing to someone and they either can't afford a bible or don't own one, well if you have an extra or two lying around you can give them one to keep and help them grow spiritually. Example #3: This applies only to having the same bible but I feel is still relevant; you and a brother or sister are having devotions together, and you're reading from your bible and he/she is trying to follow along only your reading from the NIV and your brother/sister has a KJV or any other bible. If you had a copy of the same bible you were reading from you could loan it to your brother/sister to follow along more easily with you. Just looking for some honest feedback. I listed the above examples to give an idea of where I stand slightly but I welcome and encourage open and honest feedback. Thanks and God's Blessings, In His service always, Dan |

Dan, you have brought up some very valid points.
One thing that I would like to add is a reminder to those persons who have many Bibles 'laying around'. The only good Bible is one that is read and studied... otherwise it is just a dust collector. Welcome to CFS, Dan.

The question is: Are the Bibles just for show, or are they actually read and studied? There's an old song titled "Dust on the Bible" about people who have one but never read it, and it just collects dust.
