Default How Patient Are You ?

Hmm.... that is a loaded question that I ask myself and in James 5:7-12 it says .

Patience in Suffering

7Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. 8You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. 9Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!
10Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. 12Above all, my brothers, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.

The definition of " Patient "

Patient is not so much the brave indurance of affictions..... as the self - restraint which enables the sufferer to refrain from nasty retaliation.

The opposites of patience is in this sense are " wrath and revenge-"---- His slowness to punish us as we deserve .. His generosity in giving time for us to repent, and His eagerness to make allowances .

God's patience is the reason why the Lord's coming is delayed , for that will be the Day of Judgement. Since God is postponing that day out of patience , we too should be patient in awaiting justice. The alternatives---"vindictiveness and despair" ---- must both be rejected.

So the question I ask .... How patient are You ? And what are some of the circumstances that tempt you to lose patience?

I try and I try and when some one cuts me off in traffic, it is so hard to smile and disreguard it.

When I am tired that is the time that I seem to have less patience.

When I am explaining something to some one and at the end they ask a question that I have already told them.

When I am at the super market and some one jumps in front of the line without asking.

Ok that's enough from me how about you guys.?

I grow impatient when I manage my time poorly.
And especially when I fail to trust in God and turn to my own efforts instead.

I have an essay to write for class, Catechism instruction this evening, an adult information class to teach, I'm struggling with aa sermon for this Sunday, the starter went out on my truck, then someone calls and needs to talk.....

"Give me a break God, Where am I going to find the time for all of this?"

Some of my frustration is due to the fact that I did not allow time for the unforseen, that's my fault.

Some of my frustration is due to the fact that I am not trusting in God to provide the time and energy (daily bread) that I will need today.
Again, my fault.

I think patience is something we learn and develop throughout our lives, it is not something we are born with.

I have heard people say, "Well, I just wasn't blessed with patience." I don't think anyone is, I've never seen a baby that was hungry, or needed a diaper changed that had been blessed with patience.

Amen .

I also think of the farmer ... How patient is he ... he plants ... he waters .. he waits .. then he reaps.

Oh that we should be like the farmer who has to develope patience. It only comes with practice and I believe that is what God expects of us.

We can grow impatient when it comes to "getting something that we want" and we go ahead try to "work it out" rather than waiting upon the Lord for the outcome...

We have to be careful not to "run ahead of God" but seek His will to "keep up with Him." This would be the place where impatience and (lack of) faith can collide.

James 1:2-4 (KJV)
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that

ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Amen " wounded " that is true . And He puts us through some tests but He will not give us more than we can bear.

I think over the years , I have mellowed out and have become more patient so I think that comes with age.

I used to be one of the most patient people on the planet, and still today with certain situations I still am. Sadly though I have become greatly impatient, with most things. I think that most of my issues are caused with the chronic pain that I deal with.

Road rage is a good example of my impatience. Another is getting along with my wife (we are cooped up day after day after day, and never have time to ourselves). When I was working, we got along so much better.
