Yeah same here, all my family is catholic so I have to bear with their traditions. It's a nice time for family but nothing else. If I didn't live with them I would not celebrate it, but now I only celebrate it to be with family and nothing else.

It's pretty strange how they all go to church for Jesus, make a big event about His supposed birth date, while non ever question its origins.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. This is all very useful to my family and I. Basically, I think you're right - it is all about compromise and Christmas should just be about Christ.
My husband doesn't believe in the giving of gifts and celebrating with a nice meal. His family treat this day as a normal day. Birthdays and Easter are times of the year he celebrates. However, from some replies, presents and get togethers and a nice Christmas dinner are somethings which we can continue to do.
As someone said, it would be great to start a new family way of celebrating this time of year and I guess as long as it's all about Christ and we cut out the pagan stuff, we don't have to forget the day completely.
Thanks again!
