Mat 6:2 When therefore thou doest alms…
Mat 6:5 And when ye pray… Mat 6:16 Moreover when ye fast… When you do alms. When you pray. When you fast. Jesus didn’t say “if” on any of these. A lot of people believe doing alms is a good thing, and praying? Well yes, of course I pray. Fasting? Ohhhhh… I don’t really need to do that. It’s not that important. The only thing I would suggest is starting with no more than 24 hours. If you’re going to get a little woosy, do it when you’ll be home all day so you can lay down for a while if needed. When you are going to start, eat a light meal for your last meal. don’t stuff yourself. And after the 24 hours, don’t stuff yourself then either. Just fast and pray and listen for God to speak to you. Don’t expect anything huge the first time.

Water is important.
Have all the water you want, but if you eat, you have broken the fast. But remember,.... that's okay. One thing you will gain from fasting is patience and stamina, these things take time to develop. Don't make yourself sick, you are of very little use to God if you are sick. Also, remember that you will be physically weak. Don't expect to fast for a day or more and still do all of the physical things you normally do. Select a time when you can devote yourself to prayer and meditation only. I'll locate some solid information that will help guide you and post it as soon as I can, but it will probably be tomorrow sometime. ![]() |

It all depends on how you feel. If you think its OK to have it and still be a fast, have it. I've heard having any dairy breaks the fast, but I use cream in my coffee and don't feel my fast is broken. If you get woozy after a few hours of no food try a juice fast. I can fast for a long time now if I feel moved to it. Water fasts can be serious, plan on a juice fast first.
I was fasting last week and did phyiscal labor on the 4th day, I got a little nervous I might get hurt, so I was very careful, and drank some whey protein throughout the day and ended the fast that evening. On a water only fast you'll find really quick how your body will respond to the lack of nutrients. |

There are many types of fasts. Some fast on juices, some give up certain types of food and some give up all food. It is an amazing thing how your body asks constantly for somethings that it really does not need- these become apparent when fasting.
