There is a famous saying “Don’t talk to strangers”.
How Christian is this? During my past week, a couple of people whom I don’t know of and some whom I know a little bit came to me asking for help to buy some thing for cheap. I know a few places. Before I was a Christian I wouldn’t have helped them. Because I would prefer to be selfish and I would probably say “why would I help you”. But my heart says to help them, also something told me to be selfish but I didn’t listen. So I told a few place where they can buy cheap stuff typically they are expensive. They were sort of stunned after that. May be they weren’t expecting that. Before I make the decision to help i heard this “Lord GOD will provide” |

To reach out to those in need is the nature of Christ and thus our nature. It is however important that we use discernment when dealing with folks we do not know.

Leonidus-
It needs to be understood, what Smellycat and Boenerges both point out are right on. The point SC used is especially important for small children in this day and age of people doing strange things and children can be at risk. Second- As Boenerges points out, christ calls us to speak to strangers. The "Great Commission", spreading the gospel. How can we do that, if can't talk to strangers? Thus, as was pointed out, discernment of God is needed in such cases. When God teaches us to understand His Word as literally written, He does not intend us to be so "legalistic" about it. God teaches us of a balance He instills in understanding His Word, thus, when we speak of good things taught our children for thier protection, let us not take that so "legalistic" we leave behind the true moral value and reasoning for it. God Bless!!
