Default Taking care of myself?

Taking care of myself?

I can’t seem to find any Scripture or Biblical principle on taking care of yourself first.
Is there such a thing?
I’m sure there is, but I just can’t seem to find it.

What I’m talking about is… I know we are suppose to put God first, others second and then us, but if we don’t take care of us, how can we take care of others?

That’s what’s going through my mind right now.

Well I can say that God promises to provide those things necessary for our care so He must want us to use them.

Well if everyone had that principle,we wouldn't have to take care of ourselves - they'd do it for us

God and Christ teach us the two "greatest" but not only Commandments, are to love God with all you are, and love others as Christ loves us.

Jesus used the examples of birds and flowers, how they are provided for by God. Yet we, as God's children, will we not be taken care of also? God declares, if we put Him first, to focus on following and serving Him, He will supply all our needs.

So, if we put God first in all things in our lives, what need have we to care of ourselves, if God will do so for us?

God bless!!

Yes Dean .... I believe God want us to look after ourselves and look after His " Temple ". It's just that we have to put everything in the right perspective and as every one is saying God first , family next and us last. God Bless.

Psalm 95:7
for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if you hear his voice,

Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.

Nahum 1:7
The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,

Luke 21:34
"Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.

Ephesians 5:15
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,

Ephesians 5:29
After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church—

1 Corinthians 3:16
Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?

1 Corinthians 6:19
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

You are on a roll. I think that is exactly what I was looking for.

Mat 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mar 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Mar 12:33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Luk 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Jas 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

If you are not to look after or care for yourself then I would not want to be your neighbour. God says to love your neighbour as you do yourself this, to my mind, assumes that you will care for yourself
