I think that because of sin, rats and mice began to carry diseases, nasty little creatures such as hornets, mosquito's, crop destroying pests and bugs, all became a burdeon to mankind.

Population control is one of our responsibilities as stewards of this earth which includes harvesting things like deer, cattle, rabbits, etc and protecting ourselves from the overpopulation of pests.

Personally, I have always viewed the cans of Raid Hornet poison that can shoot 35 feet as one of Gods finest blessings to mankind.

I like it much better than shooting the nest with a shotgun and running like crazy for the house.

I don't think God minds.

God gave man dominion over the earth. Prior to Adam and Eve's sin, the garden of Eden was basically self-sustaining. Afterwards, man was required to till the soil, kill for meat and clothing, etc. The balance was broken. Killing bugs and pests is part of having dominion over the earth and subduing it.

In Leviticus 11:20 God tells man which insects he is allowed to kill and eat, and which ones he can not eat. The Bible never says that man can not kill any other insects-- just that man can not eat them.


This thread reminds me of a story.......

One day there was a bug in our living room and so my dad scooped it up and carried it outside. He looked at me and said "I'm an exterminator!" I looked back at him and said "No, you're a Buddhist exterminator."
(Buddhist because he didn't kill the bug..... for those who don't get it.)

That's one I wish people would appreciate - that responsible deer hunters are not murderers. We control the population, that's why there are bag limits and other laws around hunting. One deer a year. Good food. The greatest father - son memories.

In this area we are limited by the state to one buck and three doe per season. This is not nearly enough.

Our deer are extremely overpopulated, much is due to the fact that the natural predators have been greatly reduced in population.
(Wolves, Cougars, and Coyotes.)

Because our deer harvest has become so limited, deer are killed on the roads, people die from hitting deer, they suffer from mange, and starvation.

Proper harvesting of any speces is beneficial to that speces, to mankind, and to Christ's kingdom here on earth.

It just pains me to see a mangy, skinny deer in the winter time, or one hit by a car in town. It is physical evidence of poor wildlife management.

Without natural predators these animals need to be culled or they become overcrowded, diseased and starve to death.

I've never eaten a deer bec we dont get them here

If you haven't had good venison, (Deer meat) you're missing something very tasty. It is also very healthy for you as it is low in fat and very lean.

Because God has blessed us with such an abundance of deer, I can harvest 3 each season, this, 4 hogs and one grain fed steer usually get our family through the year.

It would be a better world if all people had such a passion for animals as you seem to have. Then they would take the time to see the hurt and damage that overpopulation cause and behave more responsibly.

It is a fact, that responsible hunting and population management directly lead to stronger, healthier and more abundant wildlife for everyone to enjoy.

I agree with you CS.
Most people don't give a second thought on animals. If they do, it's only short lived. While I am not saying people have to be fanatic, but animals do help us in more ways than one.
I am not much of a hunter myself, but if it is beneficial to the population of animals and good management of them, then there is no hurt there that I can see at the moment. As long as it is done in a good, respectful manner and people aren't just shooting deers and different birds down as if it's the supermarket then they can do it. Already there are overpopulations of mourning doves in some areas (they are cute though...) and in some states it is legal to hunt doves.
