We sang an old old hymn that I haven' t sung for a long time and it blessed me so much that I can' t stop singing it so thought I would post it . The red part is what really touched me, my sin is nailed to the cross and I no longer have to bear it . Praise God

Amen! A real classic and an awesome praise!
And what a man of God that wrote it!

This is the amazing story behind that great Hymn:
It Is Well with My Soul From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from It Is Well With My Soul) It Is Well with My Soul is a very influential hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. This hymn was written after several traumatic events in Spafford’s life. The first was the death of his only son in 1871, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire which ruined him financially (he had been a successful lawyer). Then in 1873, he had planned to travel to Europe with his family on the S.S. Ville Du Havre, but sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with another ship, and all four of Spafford's daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone." Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died. The Spaffords later had three more children, one of whom (a son) died in infancy. In 1881 the Spaffords, including baby Bertha and newborn Grace, set sail for Palestine. The Spaffords moved to Jerusalem and helped found a group called the American Colony; its mission was to serve the poor. The colony later became the subject of the Nobel prize winning Jerusalem, by Swedish novelist Selma Lagerlöf. It Is Well with My Soul - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Although I cannot prove it I was told he wrote that hymn at sea over the coordinates were his daughters went down with the ship.

I have always loved that hymn but I never knew the background story. Thanks that makes it even more special.

By co-incidence [?] I sang that hymn yesterday at the opening service of term3 at our school.
I agree - it is great and made even more so by the circumstances.

Dusty;
I feel the same way about the 3rd verse... ( happy tear emoticon)I am just so thankful that when Jesus bore our sins on the cross, He did not bear a few or some of them but ALL of them... Hallelujah So glad that the Lord blessed you with this song. It means so much to you because He means so much to you. |
