I don't usually stay on the net at 12 but I was getting ready for bed when I saw this orange thing in the sky.

Firstly, it really creeped me out. It's partly cloudly and I know the moon doesn't have an orange-red glow like this one and it most certainly is not as big as what I saw in the sky.

It wasn't shaped like a star, but it was this big, bright orange-red color in the sky, like a flame burning. I'm not sure if it was clouds making the form distort and shift, but it got bigger, then smaller, then bigger again. It wasn't round like the moon, and again the moon is never this big in the sky this late, and is more yellowish in color during the first rise and the then the set, not bloody orange-red.

I turned out all the patio lights, and I didn't have any binoculars to look at this thing through. I stayed outside most of the time it was out there. The last I saw was a small, bright red star-like object before it disappeared - completely.

I don't know what the heck this was and I am really, really confused and kind of creeped out right now. It was HUGE. It looked like a flame...it could have been a comet...but I am not so sure...

Wow - I can see it must have been freaky! Listen out to the news and rwad tomorrows local newspaper to see if there is any comment about it.

Maybe it was God trying to give you a message of some sort. Look for it again.

I saw something similar when I was young. It turned out Nasa had launched 3 illuminated weather balloons from it's Michoud facility to test wind patterns

N-T-G: Nothing mystical about what you saw. That is common in your area this time of year (if I have your approximate location correct...)

Think about the MANY wildfires in the general area of the San Gabriel Mountains northwest of San Bernardino... then think about the general weather patterns lately - the low humidity, the windy conditions and the ON-SHORE Pacific winds that take place after sunset some days...

My brief research indicates that what you saw as a wildfire REFLECTION off of the smoky Pacific cloud layer in place to your northwest, north and northeast. I have witnessed this phenomenon myself and because of my involvement as a weather analyst, I can be over 80 percent sure that this is what you saw. There are other possibilities such as a rocket test shot from Vendenburg AFB in Santa Barbara County which lands in the military test range north of Barstow, bit I'd have to go with the reflection situation based upon current conditions.

U ne I do too. Because I tried to wake up my grandmother (mom is gone on a trip) and she wouldn't wake up. The only other witness to it would be Rocky, the dog whose staying with us...but I don't think she's a good witness.

I still can't figure it out. It puzzles me. Maybe I was only meant to see it...

The problem with that is the 1) I do not live anywhere near the current fires burning, 2) it was quiet...no wind blowing 3) I know it wasn't a rocket because Santa Barbara County is like...what a 3to 4 hour drive from me?

This is what creeps me out...a lot. I just cannot find a ration explanation for it. What really bothers me was how it moved. It didn't move where I could see it, but changed shape slowly. One minute it'd be this big flaming blob in the sky and the next minute it'd be the fiery curl. And, that last of it I saw was a big, bloody-red star shining.

Google is not much of a help...I only come up with some Chinese company and then some wacko New Age thingy....grrrr.

Maybe it'll be back tonight.

This was this Friday at 12:00 A.M. - 1:00 A.M. I do not live in the San Bernardino County area, I live in north Orange County by Anaheim.

Also, it did move but it stayed in the exact same spot. Never changed directions. So I guess it wasn't anything like a rocket, meteor, comet, or something that could fall from the sky.

Near, I saw the same thing the other night! Around midnight! I think the direction was roughly west, probably more like southwest. I assumed it was the moon behind clouds, and I just couldn't see the clouds. It grew and then it shrunk and it was very orange/red and not really round. It soon disappeared completely.

I've seen a comet before - they're white and steak by really fast.
