Default The Holy Spirit?

I was taught that at the moment were are born again God gives us all of the Holy Spirit that anyone will ever have or need, yet Jesus said in Luke 11:13 that "your heavenly Father [will] give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him." Additionally five other passages (Acts 4:8, 4:31 7:55, 11:24 and 13:9) all state that the particular Christian was "full off" or "filled with" the Holy Spirit. Obviously these people were saved, but apparantly not completely filled with the Holy Spirit until a later time.

I believe we get some of the Holy Spirit at conversion then God gives us more and more of His Spirit as we mature in Him. Eventually we will be completely full of, or filled with, the Holy Spirit and then we will become as perfect as a child of God can be on this side of eternity. By "perfect" I don't mean completely sinless, but certainly we will sin less as we are filled with God's Spirit and He removes our desire to sin.

I read a cute story about perfection. A seven-year-old piano player performed a one-handed version of Mary Had A Little Lamb perfectly, and her piano teacher smiled at her and exclaimed "Perfect!" However, as she matures, that same teacher will expect a great deal more from her. If at 27 she was still playing Mary Had A Little Lamb one handed it is doubtful the teacher would be happy.

Actually, it is not possible to have more of the Holy Spirit. He is God, therefore infinite, and infinity cannot be divided. We either have Him or we don't have Him. Romans 8:9 tells us that anyone who does not have the Spirit does not belong to Christ. When we are born again He comes to live in our spirit and to empower us to live God's way.

Whilst we can't have more of the Spirit, we can have a greater release of the Spirit's power. That happens when we actively seek Him and surrender our lives more to Him - when we give Him more of us.

blessings,

Lynn

The only one there is.

And

Let go of yourself and what you want. His will. In the big and small ways. Even in the tiny ways such as your every thought.

If you're saying that we have "ALL" of the HS in us and it just releases more powerfully at times, I disagree. We are imparted God's grace as He wills to give us. The more we yield to Him. And then we are actively filled. The Holy Spirit is the manifestation of God's love and it is taken in, in many ways, and poured out, in many ways. Simply by submitted our thoughts, bodies and all of ourselves to the Holy Spirit to do God's will, pushing our own aside to make way for Jesus.

As the seed is watered it sprouts and then the stem grows, fertilised with nourishment to produce fine heads ready for the harvest.
When we are born new we drink the milk as babes in Christ until we grow in the spirit and mature enough for solid food.
Then one self is completely Broken and yielded to the spirit of God for his will to be done.

God bless

Praise God Ben. !!! I love the way you summed it up and it is true. And yes we receive the Holy Spirit when we are saved and yes we can receive more through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and Fire. When we receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit it is necessary that we get a fresh infilling every day as we pray and seek Him. It just does not end at salvation , praise God , He continues to give and give and give as we are willing recepticles. I don't think within myself that I can ever say that I will be completely full but I can say that my cup is full and running over as I daily go to Him to refill.

Univac ..... thankyou for that confirmation as over that last few days , I have been broken and did not know the reason and even pushed my dearest friend away . But as I yeilded to Him he gave me these words " It is in my brokeness that I learn of His closeness and learn to trust and rely on Him more "
