Cross John 1-4

I recently took my 9 year old daughter on a trip to AZ to visit my mother in the hospital. It's a 6 hour drive so I took her and made her read the bible out loud to me while I drove. I explained things as she read and i got her a special pen and note pad for her to keep notes so that I could quiz her on it later.

We made it into the 4th chapter and I ask her a series of questions such as:

What happened first?
Who is God?
Who is John the Baptist?
What did John the Baptist see?
Who were Jesus’ first 3 decuples?
ECT.

I asked her about 35 different questions about the first 4 chapters and she knows the answers by heart now and she begs me to ask her the questions again and again. This is encouraging to say the least, to have your 9 year old excited about reading the bible and all.

We get to the part about her needing to be born again and she understands that in order for her to see/go to heaven she needs to be reborn in the spirit and she understands it and I have been waiting for her to come to the realization and the magnitude of that decision, but she hasn't yet. Yesterday in the car she asked me again to ask her again and each time i go over it with her I put a little more emphasis on her need to be saved through Jesus and reborn in the spirit. She asked me when she should do it, and I told her that she could do it at any time; she still hasn't reached the point where the urgency and the need present itself though.

Any suggestions?

Prayer, patience, and trust. All is good.

What a blessing, that is awesome Kris!

I know that I needed to learn through mistakes in life to understand my actions and the difference between my will and his will then I had a choice. Myself or him ? I chose faith in him, so know I do for what I don't wont to do, It is a process like Jax Said let the holy spirit do his work.

God bless

【1Co3:6】 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
【1Co3:7】 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
【1Co3:8】 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.

That is so precious and touched my heart. What a wonderful parent and you are doing the right thing by teaching your child when she is young. I would encourage you by saying that the Lord and the Holy Spirit will do their work as you are planting the seed. " Train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it. " Keep on doing what you are doing.

The only thing I can say is sone day when you are least expecting it she will come to the Lord as my son surprised me when he was 9 years old and was sitting in church when an alter call was made and got out of his seat and went to the front with out even a flinch. I had my eyes closed and when I opened them .... there he was at the front of the church.

Don't rush her. You want to be absolutely sure she fully understands what she's doing when she calls on the Lord. Example: I was 16 when someone in a church got me down on my knees and said, "Repeat these words after me." I had no idea what the words meant, and I was too shy to say so. I went away from there as lost as I was before but thinking that I was now a Christian. It was nearly a year later that I learned the truth about believing and repenting--neither of which I had done nearly a year before.

So, as I said, make ABSOLUTELY SURE she understands and knows what she's doing. You don't want her going through life thinking she's a Christian and on her way to heaven when she's not. God isn't fooled; He knows the difference between a real confession and a false confession. Saying the right words means nothing if the person isn't sincere.

Right on, everyone!
Patience, patience. Let her move in her own time.
Good job, Kris!

Yes, I agree with you on waiting and not preasuring her. I know that WHEN God calls her, she will know what to do. In His good timing will she respond to the knowledge that she has already been given. If I have done nothing else good in this life it will be to bring my children to the Lord with all knowledge and suplication. I will continue to sit and make her read and take notes, We actually started in Job but without knowledge of what the result was she would have been confused about the message. That's why I made her start at John.
