Okay, first of all, let me start off - I have been thinking of writing a fantasy novel.
I know it sounds a bit out there but I want to incorporate strong perceptions of God. I don't really know how to go about it - all I know is that I had a dream of a storyline, and it has evolved into a 22 page story so far. Now I know what the stigma is with fantasy and religion. I just wondered what you all thought. I just don't think that God needs to be boxed into a corner. But the thing is, it is a fantasy novel so there will be elements of magic, etc, which in no way do I want or wish to promote satanic views of witches and magic and stuff like that. It's just really hard to define the Christianity/Fantasy line. I know that for me myself the book is merely a work of fantasy. I want to write this because I do believe it's from God but I think I need to be very careful in how I write it. I have always dreamt of being a writer and until now had no real direction, but ever since the dream it's like little thoughts and images pop into my mind at random that I know I could use. The thing is, I could NEVER create something this detailed on my own. I know it's of God. The kind of thing that I want to follow (use as inspiration) are C.W. Lewis's books, Narnia etc being the Christian views in a fantasy book. Although the world I have created does have non Christian elements it has a strong perception of God and I believe this is the most important thing. As I said, this book is a work of fiction only and I stress that I would not want my readers to think I am promoting any non Christian values. What do you guys think? What should I include/think about etc? I just want to make sure that I'm going about it the right way. I enjoy fantasy books and know how to seperate the good stuff and the not-so-great stuff but I'm scared that my readers, especially since it will be targeted at a teenage range, will take something from my work that I don't want them to.

Sounds awesome! I love fantasy novels and write short fantasy stories myself too!
![]() If you're looking to not put a positive view on magick type works in your stories maybe have it so that those who practise such htings must suffer negative consequences. That using such thigns comes at a price that only the foolish and evil would go for. Or perhaps have the more Godlike powers and themes be clearly superrior, with no question that it would be better to chose that over 'dark magic'.

I agree with RichardS, I love fantasy novels! Other than many equine and poetry and other genres I write, this is something I always do.
![]() I really cannot say for sure what you want to write about. All I can say is GOOD LUCK!![]()

I like fantasy books, but there are so few that have Christian values in them. They promote things like sex outside of marriage and evolution. If you could write one that was Christian oriented, that would be great! You know, Tolkein was Christian and has Christian symbolism in his works. You just have to look for them.

Yeah, Tolkien had great Christian symbolism in his books. It was overtly there but just the things he had were good. Subtle, but there. ![]()

The Christian symbolism in Tolkeins books.
Haven't noticed any in the Lord of the rings or The Hobbit, but I wasn't looking real hard when I read through them. ^^;
