Default Music online.

Is downloading music online from programs stealing? When is it stealing?

Quite simple, if it is not offered as freeware then it does not belong to us.

It may not be stealing if the person who owns it is offering it for download. However, most commercially produced music is sold to us on the basis that we don't copy it or allow others to copy it.

Therefore it is breaking the copyright law.

I have a friend who feeds his family with the money from CD sales - so if I offered copies online free of charge [using software that is readily available] it could be argued that I [and the person receiving it] are stealing food from his table.

Its stealing when you illegally download music, copy music, rip music, etc. and if the latter, distribute it to others.

As B said, if it is not selected as downloaded free music and such, then its stealing.

That's a good way of pointing it out to.
Not only do other people take the money they get from these CDs, but also the bands.
People are unwilling to pay money for CDs nowadays because we have websites that offer this music [free] of no charge. Why I do not buy CDs from my favorite artisits is because
1) they are Japanese bands
2) because they are foreign I can expect to pay at least $50.00 - $70.00 for a CD, and if I want to, their PV [Promotional Video].
3) I do not have any downloaded music from my favorite bands, hence it is to difficult to find their songs, and if I do happen to find them I usually either have a video, not the actual song :3
