Dusty, you're right.
I live near Los Angeles, not close but the nightly news always has something going on.
And I agree Mellow: Excuse me, but I think I should post some crime rate statistics - if it doesn't seem bad to anyone then someone must not be looking correctly. Sure the news overplays everything but to say that nothing has gotten worse is like saying peanut butter isn't sticky.

This is a U.S. (as a whole) Crime Rates 1960 - 2006.
If you look closely, do you see the increase in certain categories? I don't think this is just some coincidence...crime is increasing. Some of the statistics have decreased, but this ends at 2006. I need one for 2008.

And I am not trying to start an argument. This link [above] is provided for everyone to see and look at to show that over the years crime has increased for whatever reason. It's sad but also sadly true.

Crime rates have been dropping for the last ten years or so. The biggest increase seems to be at the end of the 60s and into the 70s. Crime usually tends to go up when a economic recession hits. What is the coincidence you are trying to say correlates to this rise in crime?

Yeah, that's what I read on Wikipedia. They said it may rise at the end of 2008, but not so sure.

I wanted to quote the Wiki section that showed the increase and decrease in crime, but I didn't want to mess with all that.

I just have not found a crime statistic for 2008. Usually only 2006/2005.

So, I'll just wait and see.

I wouldn't be too surprised if crime was going up now with prices going up and funds being cut from education.

Ha, no kidding. Have you heard where people are taking license plates, putting them on their cars, taking gas, not paying for it, and then driving away? I'll have to see what else they're doing. I'm also interested to see what'll happen in 2009. I wonder how that year will be.

There is a lot of sin in the world, and with the advance of the internet etc it can spread at a faster rate, but each of us has to remember that we all can have issues in our own hearts.
It is easy to look at the world and say 'how terrible' and yet miss the little foxes that we too shield in our hearts.
The world isnt saved, it doesnt know Jesus, nothing that it does should suprise us, they are slaves to sin, but we are not.
We need to keep our hearts pure and open before the Lord.
Is there anything in our lives that the enemy can get a foothold through?
Am I truly living a life that with the help of the Holy Spirit I am not deliberatly doing anything that could be regarded as sin (we all make mistakes, dont mean that) but wilful sin, something that isnt honest or truthful or is deceptive or stealing time or whatever when we are supposed to be doing something else?
It's just that we are called not to judge, but to pray, and make sure that we are representing the Lord properly.
