Celebrate Canada Day

On July 1, 2008
Canada will celebrate it's 141st year since Confederation.
Before 1982 Canada Day had been known as Dominion Day, First of July, Confederation Day, and July the First.
Canada Day celebrates the events that occurred on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act created the Canadian federal government. The BNA Act proclaimed "one Dominion under the name of Canada," hence the original title of the holiday, "Dominion Day." Dominion Day was officially renamed "Canada Day" by an Act of Parliament on October 27, 1982. This change reflected the policy of successive governments to down play Canada's colonial origins.
Canada's national celebration is always observed on July 1, unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case it is observed the following day. All Canadians are entitled to Canada Day off work - although some people have to work. (like Police, Fire and emergency service workers).

IT is funny being an American living in Canada. I find some Canadians very reserved and laid back! This is one day where they do celebrate, not quite like us Americans! LOL, but they do celebrate. So I get to have 2 holidays within a few days of each other. Happy Canada day Dusty!

I will be going downtown as that is where all the action is at Queens Park ( Parliament) They have if you can imagine five cent hotdogs and all kinds of free stuff so of course that's where I head. What other time does the gov't give you freebees.??????.... He he.

LOL! I hear ya. Our church is doing stuff on Sunday, but I wouldn't dare go into Toronto, especially downtown on July 1. YIKES...that is scary! We took my son to a concert there a few weeks ago, and hung out driving around and such. GOODNESS...on a 'normal' day that place is scary! LOL We live about 45 minutes east of Toronto. Pickering is about how far I go west! LOL...

Ohhh Dusty,
I live right near Ottawa. and I'm at work right now in the government and we're the ones in my department planning Canada day !!
But shh I can't reveal anything haha :P

July 1st is ok . It's what 's going on this week end that is scary. I will stay away from there if you know what I mean.


I would never drive downtown. I always take the go train as I live right across from the station. I love going downtown. I just went to a Blue Jays game.
