What God teaches us.
Some people want to hold onto fear, doubt, and worry for example. Because of the benefits that come with them. When you fear, you keep yourself out of harms way. When you doubt, you keep yourself from being lied to. When you worry, you plan for things. Of course these things mostly destroy you though. What God gives us is the benefits of fear without the fear, the benefits of doubt without the doubt, and the benefits of worry without the worry. We are not to worry. Even though we think we're trusting God, we're looking out to our future and hoping for many things. Making that hope our strength. THAT IS NOT FAITH IN THE LORD. If He is your portion and you are satisfied with Him, then you need to be content with what you have today, even if that was to be it for the rest of your life.

It is all good. I have heard folks say whatever you do do not pray for patience yet that is a characteristic God is developing in us- do not be afraid of letting go- it is all good. Death to self, new life in Christ, embracing the cross- it is all good.

I believe fear is the primary way that satan tries to get us down. Fear is so destructive and robs us of our joy. We all know the verse, "The joy of the Lord is our strength". So if we let satan get our joy then he gets our strength and then we tumble.

Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Rom 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; Rom 5:4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: Rom 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. All this wonderful fruit is born of tribulation- why would we ever fear? Our sovereign God brings good things out of every possible situation every time.

Reading your post inspired me to think about a different sort of fear.
What is the meaning of fear? Fear = a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. Whether we like it or not, there is something called Fear of the Lord. Fear of the Lord is something good to have, it should stop us from committing sin. The bible speaks of it in several places. eg: Ecclesiasticus 1 27 The Fear of the Lord driveth out sin" and Proverbs 16 6 By mercy and truth iniquity is redeemed: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil. I agree, God does not want us to fear; but to trust in Him. But having fear of Him, is a good thing as it should make us live a better life, in fear of offending Him. tradcat |

I remember once when my son was 8, he all of a sudden stopped being such a "bad little boy." He started obeying more and just doing the right things. He was always such a little brat before and had a lot of stubborn streaks. He told me once when he was about 21, how he just decided at that time that he didn't want to disappoint me anymore, so decided to be better. He said he was afraid he'd disappoint me. That would be a good fear to have with God, I think.
![]() Also, sometimes I have had the fear that I would not go to Heaven if I slipped and did a bad thing. But I don't think that is the right kind of fear. The Bible says "The fear of the Lord is our strength." Maybe the fear of disappointing God would strengthen our resolve to obey Him more. ?
