Gas Discount




BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) _ A Beckley, West Virginia, church has given drivers a 25-cent-per-gallon discount at the gas pump.
Members of Freedom Baptist Church even pumped the gas for customers and cleaned windshields for two hours Saturday during a steady rain at the 2 Johns Short Stop.
The church paid the difference in the discounted price. It ran a similar promotion in October. Pastor David Trump says the discounts are simply a way of serving the community.
Customer Russ W. says the discount from $4.09 per gallon to
$3.84 allowed him to buy another loaf of bread.

The Guru of "servant evangelism" is Steve Sjogren who promoted this type of ministry starting back in the 80's. He wrote a book "Conspiracy of Kindness," which shows the many things the Church can do to simply do nice things for people. It really works.

Just think...some poor mom who wouldn't have been able to afford gas another way might have saved enough.

This might have gotten her wheels turning...these people are so nice, she might have thought. I want some of that nice.

If we follow Him, we'll never want for anything. What a wonderful way to show it, what a wonderful way to let your light shine!

Not to be the one with a sour view point, but I think it seems a little bit like a marketing ploy to get people to go to his church. Nice none the less and I definitely believe in living/teaching by example, for some reason this just give me the feeling of ulterior motive...
