Once you're in hell, are you there forever? Or does God give the person a choice when they die?

I don't understand how heaven can be a place of everlasting bliss when I will know that my grandfather who I love dearly is not there.

Sorry, I know I turned this thread into a new topic.

Not to make light on the situation, but you will not remember the former things in this life, and I believe this includes those that we have loved but denied Christ and been cast into outter darkness..

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Today is the day of salvation and all you can do is continue to pray for your Grandfather's salvation. Once he steps in eternity, he has no chance of taking this journey again..

If I understand correctly Jesus went to Hell to get the keys. He also had to pay for our sins even the endurance of Hell which would entrap us forever and kill us. Jesus defeated Hell and death then took the keys to both. Now he holds the keys to death and Hell and has earned the right to pardon anyone who believes in his name.

Can anyone polish this up a bit and even correct the descrepincies.

No you were right on, but I want to add Scripture to back up that Jesus did in fact descend into the lower parts of the earth..

Eph 4:9 Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

Eph 4:10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.

Why did Jesus go to hell when He had never sinned?
I would like to add…
Quote:
also he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.
1 Peter 3:18
So Jesus descended into hell to preach (teach) those who had gone on before apart from the faith.

Quote:
For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
1 Peter 4:4-6
God is just. Everywhere, always. This gives great comfort to me. Because if God is “Fair” then I would be dead, both in flesh and in spirit because I am a sinner.
But God is “JUST” and therefore I can stand in the presence of God by the righteousness of Jesus Christ and not my own righteousness. His atonement of the cross is sufficient.

Quote:
He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.
Ephesians 4:10
He did it in order to fill the whole universe.

These are the reasons, according to Gods Holy Word, that Jesus descended into hell. Perhaps there are others of which we are unaware. Perhaps He also did so that we might have this very conversation at this time and in this place.

Scripture doesn't always give us all of the answers.
Scripture gives us all of the answers that we need.

I agree with Atone....When God told Adam and Eve do NOT eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.....I believe that man had no idea there was such a thing as evil.

Can you imagine? Not even being aware that there is evil??? WOW! In heaven it will be us and God and nothing between but love....
How amazing will that be?? No knowledge of evil?? I could get used to that! It seems that the longer I am on this planet the more evil I see and the harder it is to find room for more.

I truly believe that all evil will no longer even be a memory for His children. It will be gone. His mercy on our minds will be complete. We will be in the Garden with Him again.....

Thanks very much for the explanation. May God bless all.

Just my personal view it was the tree of the knowledge of GOOD and evil. Even the good of man devoid of God's leadership and empowering is useless and a filthy rag at best. So perhaps it was then that Adam and Eve began to make decisions based of their own soulish reasoning rather than the total dependence upon God they used to live in.

Something I found interesting was the reason that Adam and Eve were sent out of the garden forever. I thought it was a punishtment for their dissobediance.

However, I read deeper and God sent them out so they could not, also, eat of the "tree of life". which was also in the garden.

Can you imagine if they had eaten of the tree of life and lived forever?

I found this to be a very interesting little piece of information.
I was going to say trivia but it is far from trivial.

I thought it was so they couldn’t eat of the tree of life “any more.”
The only one they weren’t suppose to eat from was the tree of good and evil, no?
They were designed to live forever and were allowed to and were already eating from the tree of life. Weren’t they?
