God is victorious bit He does allow trials in our life and we do confront evil:
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

I believe you are both right.

But Michael..... I don't believe God wants us to dwell on these events. He wants us to look to Him and live for Him because yes we are living in the last days and the world is getting more and more evil.
