Default Daylight Savings Time

Since this is an International Forum, I am curious, do other countries switch the time on their clocks around twice a year to mess with peoples minds like we do here in America?

If so, and if not, what are your thoughts on this rediculous concept?

We do in the UK but not on the same dates as you in the USA.
Personally I think it is a waste but I know folk in the very north of Scotland who say it is useful.

Do you know what they find useful about it?
Here in the United States, Indiana recently switched to daylight savings time and immediately discovered, (What the rest of us knew) that the costs of utilities went up drastically.

Well, that's very interesting.
Thank you housesitter.

I think it's funny how they trow the "farmers" in, like they are trying to do the farmers some sort of favor or something.

The government says the same thing over here.
As if any farmer cares what the clock says.

I didn't know other countries did it as well. I thought it was just a U.S. thing. (Well, most of the U.S.)

When I was a kid, I lived on the boarder of Indiana and Ohio.
Half of the year it took 20 minutes to get to school.
The other half, it took an hour and 20 minutes.

My thoughts are that this concept is ridiculous.

I don't know what the Powers That Be are thinking. I've never heard a really good defense for changing the time. Do they suppose that God didn't take the lives of human beings into account when he created the days and nights and the seasons? Why, why do we feel the need to mess with it and alienate ourselves from most of the rest of the world (timewise) in the process?

Personally...I used to live in the Pacific Northwest, and because of DST it didn't start getting dark in the high months of summer until 9 or 10 p.m. This definitely affected my sleeping habits and I never saw the point. Just get done what you need to get done while it's still light outside! And take advantage of electricity after that. That's my 2 cents.

Agreed AC, just when I get on schedule they switch it back. I tend to get a little cranky when they take my hours sleep away!

Quite a few years ago, I went to the Sunday morning spiritual meeting at the treatment center I went through. One Sunday I showed up and it was just getting over. I realized I forgot to set my ahead. I missed it.
6 months later, I forgot to set my clock back. I was an hour early.

It all works out in the end.

I often wondered how he sun could sit right in the middle of the road I was trying to look down and not melt the blacktop! LOL!
