Honestly, I don't know what you're asking! Are you asking me if I think that Scripture interprets Scripture?

How does one decide if something is truth or error for the Christian?

The first place one should look is to the scriptures and if these things do not line up with scripture and what the word of God has to say about it then we are to always believe scripture above all other information.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Peter 1:19-21
19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,
21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

hehe...what am I missing here?

I write up a post comprised entirely of scripture quotations, and then post it twice. And twice the response is "can you show me where that is in scripture?" lol, what am I missing here?

Or is it just that I'm a known Catholic who mentioned the word "Mary" in a post, and that's all y'all saw? That's what it seems like, anyway.

I have officially withdrawn from this thread but feel obliged to respond sense you asked. It is apparent that we do and will continue to get completely different meanings from those verses. All Glory goes to God.

THREAD CLOSED BY OP

When I started this thread it was intended to be a blessing.

The heart of the opening post is the comment

And yet, we’re so prone to content ourselves with symbols like the Ark which point us to God – words, songs, parables which resonate with us, similes and metaphors, ideas about him, all of which give us some emotional fulfilment. But we don’t press beyond the symbols to encounter the unimaginable God who draws near us through them, this God of whose awesomeness Greg Haslam rightly reminds us.

Why do we not see more of God’s glory? Partly, I suspect because we satisfy ourselves with the symbols and don’t press beyond them.

Sadly it has developed into a battlefield. A place where members apprear to be attempting to score points off each other.

That is not the aim of this forum and was not the intention of this thread.

As OP I have therefore decided to close the thread?
