Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering what you question is concerning.

I am a packrat.

Right now I am giving up things I have hung onto for over 45 years!

I am leaving my familiar life to start over again,
get well and learn to be more dependent and closer to God, through my trials.

I had to understand that material items hold no true value in the big picture.

It is my health and relationship with God that matters right now.

I certainly do not follow the Tao philosophy or will encourage or promote it but there are some valuable truths within the belief
system.

An example is how I learned that material things hold no true value.

Yes, Winnie The Pooh is based on Taoism.

Remember , there is no Truth but God but sometimes we can find help through reference material.
Always bring your information into connection with the scriptures though.
It should never contradict God's word!

Christians come in every flavor, James.
I know some who live very elaborately and some who are poor as can be.
I know some who choose to live as simply as possible!

It is what is in your heart.
What makes you comfortable?
What helps bring you closer to God?

What feels right for you?

I gave away my TV a while ago. The TV is what I “gave away”. What I “gave up” is everything that came through the TV and what it did to me. Mainly, it preoccupied me and helped me forget about everything else that is going on around me. I use to waste a lot of time in front of the TV. I guess you could say It was a habit that I gave up. The strange part was that while I still had the TV, I just didn’t turn it on anymore, so when I heard of someone who needed a TV, I just gave it to her. It was easy, but a little over a year ago, it wouldn’t have been easy.

I don't think you have to give anything up, James. I think God takes desires away from you after you surrender to Him and that's easier than having to give something up, right?

I think a lot of us were afraid we'd have to give up something we enjoyed doing, like going clubbing or whatever, because we thought Christians didn't have fun. But as for me, I just knew something was missing in my life and didn't even consider giving anything up until He started convicting me of things like getting drunk and cussing, etc. It just happens when you invite Christ into your life and the Holy Spirit comes in. Old becomes new and you yearn more for Him more than for the way you used to live, which didn't satisfy anyway.

I give up old things that get replaced by new things, if that counts. Clothes mainly, and computers, game systems, movies and books I'm tired of.

I treasure anything God has blessed me with as much as I can. You just can't let these things take over your mind.

It's all such a blur...

But I know I'm better and have more.

All of my old music, don't spend much time playing videogames anymore. I gave up my pride and self seeking ambition. I do what God wants me to do now.

Like Bonnie says..... We don't have to give anything up. Holy Spirit will reveal to us what is important.and if we are wasting our time on friviality.

I can actually say if all that I have in the natural as far as material things .... don't matter to me . I don't have to have the latest of this or that. I live a very simple life.

I learned this years ago when travelling around Europe and all my jewelry ( That I cherished ) was stolen from the house I was living in . But what I discovered that one of my suitcases had a knife inside that the robbers left behind. I have been ever greatful that my life was spared and now don't worry about materialism.

Cause it all belongs to God anyways. I am just a pilgrim travelling through this world . This world is not my home. What I do for Jesus will last for eternity.
